The modern clothing industry produces a wide variety of fabrics for winter outerwear. Leading positions are occupied by various types of nylon - Nylon Oxford, Taffeta, Taslan and others. These are high-strength wear-resistant fabrics with excellent water-repellent properties. The only disadvantage of nylon products is their somewhat rough appearance.

Thanks to the polytetrafluoroethylene film applied to the surface, the fabric acquires the ability to release internal vapors to the outside, while at the same time completely preventing external moisture from passing inside.This property makes it very convenient for sports, but at the same time significantly raises the price of products.
It should be noted that in combination with artificial insulation, the membrane completely loses its properties, on the contrary, turning into a "greenhouse film". Therefore, winter sports enthusiasts should refrain from buying such things.
How warm and light a jacket or down jacket will be depends on the filler. Modern heaters are represented by synthetic and natural materials. Synthetics include:
- synthetic winterizer - one of the oldest heaters, its advantage is relative lightness, its disadvantage is low thermal insulation, it loses its shape and shrinks heavily after washing;
- thinsulate - one of the best modern heaters, very light, does not deform when washed, has excellent heat-saving properties;
- holofiber and isosoft - their fibers are in the form of balls, so the products do not lose their shape after washing and with prolonged wear, withstand frost down to -250C.
Natural heaters:
- wool (sheepskin) - hypoallergenic, durable, wear-resistant, heat-saving material, the disadvantages include a lot of weight, requires dry cleaning;
- goose down - the oldest insulation, lightweight, durable, retains its shape, of the minuses - it dries for a long time, allergenic.
Artificial down has become an alternative to natural goose down. This material has lightness, hygroscopicity and excellent heat-insulating properties of natural down, however, it is hypoallergenic, dries easily, does not roll and does not get out of clothes.
