Today, many have such a coat in their wardrobe. But over time, like any other thing, it gets dirty, stains of a different nature, abrasions appear in the collar and pockets. Cashmere is very delicate, so it requires a special approach to removing dirt. One daily care is not enough, the coat must be cleaned periodically. You choose the type of cleaning yourself, depending on the pollution.
Every owner of this luxurious item must know how to properly clean a cashmere coat at home.
We take into account the manufacturer's advice
At first glance, the easiest option is to go to a dry cleaner. But it is not always possible to use the services of professionals. For example, they are not satisfied with the price or terms, because it happens that the coat needs to be cleaned of dirt urgently. Therefore, it is quite possible to do this at home. The main thing is to follow all precautions and not experiment with unfamiliar chemicals.
First you need to carefully study the label, which contains important information. Use the manufacturer's advice: what temperature should the water be, is it possible to use a washing machine, how to iron and dry the product. Don't neglect this information. Proper care will keep your item in pristine condition for a long time.
Getting rid of stains
Before you begin the procedure for removing stains from a coat, you need to make sure that the fabric will not deteriorate when using a particular product, whichever you choose. Five minutes after applying the solution to the inside of the outerwear, check if the color of the fabric has changed in the treated area. After that, you can proceed directly to cleaning. But before clean the coat of dust with a regular clothes brush.
The smell of sweat and traces in the armpit area will help to eliminate rags soaked in soapy water. The remaining liquid is easily removed with a swab with ammonia.
When removing light dirt, a simple powder will come to the rescue. The place to be cleaned must be steamed, the fibers will soften and the dirt can be easily removed with a simple brush dipped in the prepared solution.
The fight against stubborn dirt and traces of fat can be entrusted to gasoline. It is applied to the inside of the coat, placing a clean absorbent cloth on the contaminated surface. This cleaning method is more suitable for black and brown coats. If you dry outerwear on the balcony, there will be no trace of the smell of gasoline.
We use talc or soda if the coat is light in color. Apply a thick layer of one of the selected products on the stain and wait patiently for several hours. If the result does not suit us, repeat this manipulation until the dirt disappears completely.
Some housewives use the well-known Vanish carpet cleaner to clean cashmere. It helps in the fight against stains no worse than other means. Another little trick is removing grease stains with dishwashing liquid.
Traces of tea and coffee disappear without a trace under the influence of glycerin and ammonia. The solution is applied to the surface to be treated, after 15 minutes the excess is removed with a napkin. Beer stains can be treated by mixing vinegar and alcohol in equal proportions. Regular salt will work on red wine stains. It is enough to apply it to the contaminated area, and after 15 minutes remove and wipe with a damp cloth.
If you find old dirt and decide to use a stain remover, make sure that the product you choose does not contain chlorine before removing the stain.
An ammonia-salt solution in a ratio of one to four is useful if the cuffs and collar are worn. They are treated with a cotton pad dipped in a solution and allowed to dry. If the first time it was not possible to eliminate the contamination, the procedure should be repeated.
There are also unforeseen situations. Nobody is safe from them. If you knocked over a glass of juice or a cup of coffee on yourself, apply a dry rag to the stain so that the liquid is well absorbed. So it will be easier to clean the coat later. The harder you rub the surface, the deeper the dirt will be absorbed into the cashmere.
Once all stains have been removed, the cashmere coat should be thoroughly cleaned. To do this, a regular brush and soapy water are enough. Cleaning is done in a circular motion. The excess is then removed with clean water.
If your goal is just to give the product a fresh look, use the folk method. Sprinkle the dry powder over the surface of the fabric, then wipe it off with a damp sponge. Some housewives use semolina instead of powder, as well as fresh bread crumbs.
You need to clean your coat at least once a year, even if it looks good on the outside. It is better to keep it in perfect condition.
Starting cleaning, you should remember that a chic thing requires especially careful care. Cashmere is very easy to damage, so forget about hard brushes and strong friction.
Machine wash or hand wash?
Let's do both. The main thing is to do everything right. If you prefer machine wash, then you need to set the temperature to no higher than 30 degrees and use the delicate mode. In this case, the structure of the fabric will not be damaged and the shape of the product will not change. Rinse your coat twice. To make the fabric fibers soft, it is better to add a special conditioner for rinsing.
If you prefer hand washing, soak the item in warm water, where the powder, soap or shampoo is pre-diluted. Clean contaminated areas thoroughly with a brush. At the end of the wash, the coat is rinsed well.
Dry but do not iron
After that, the cashmere product is carefully wrapped in a terry towel and squeezed lightly, in no case twisting it much. Then they place it on the table, laying a dry towel, straighten it and leave it to dry completely. You can not dry the coat on the radiator.
Ironing a cashmere coat is not recommended. Better to use steam. But if there is such a need, you need to control, so that the temperature does not exceed 200 degrees. Do not allow the front side to come into contact with the iron. You can only iron from the inside out or through the fabric.
