Sooner or later, almost every one of us is faced with the problem of the appearance of complex stains on clothes. If a knitted T-shirt or beach shorts can still be safely transferred to the category of things for home or summer cottages, then with outerwear the situation is more complicated. Not everyone can afford to throw out this piece of clothing. Dye is one of the most serious problems on clothes.

Preparing to remove stains

The very first thought when you have a problem with stubborn dirt is to visit a dry cleaner, but for various reasons this is not always possible. Professional cleaning is not cheap, does not give a 100% success guarantee and can take a long time, and if your favorite and only winter jacket gets dirty, for example, you can try to clean it at home. First of all, it is necessary to prepare a place and tools for working with pollution. It should be a flat, well-lit surface, preferably covered with a layer of material that you will not be sorry to throw away later.

When working with strong chemical solutions, it is necessary to have an additional fabric that can be placed between layers of clean and soiled clothing. You will also need a white rag. All three of these materials should ideally be natural and unpatterned, as when treating a stain, paint from an auxiliary fabric can aggravate the situation.

You will also need a small brush or sponge, a knife, cotton swabs and cotton pads. A prerequisite for working with potent chemicals is the use of special gloves.

Varieties of paints

If you find a stain of paint on any clothing, first of all, you need to try to determine what kind of dye got on the fabric. This is necessary in order to choose the most effective and gentle method of removing pollution.

Alkyd paint

There are two types of such paints: oil and enamel. To clean the product from oil paint, if it has not dried yet, it will be enough just to wipe the stain with laundry soap. But if the dirt is already dry, then you will have to use chemicals: turpentine, white spirit, acetone, gasoline or thinner. The stain is removed with a cotton pad, applying it to the surface.

Turpentine is mixed with ammonia, and then the fabric is treated with technical soda. If the stain is ingrained, then it is better to leave the composition for a while and rub the area with a brush.

The enamel stain can be cleaned with alcohol: treat with a liquid reagent and leave to soak for a while, then clean with salt or laundry soap. The second effective method for enamel would be to use vegetable oil. Treat the problem area with a rag or cotton soaked in oil and leave for an hour. After that, wash the stain with dishwashing detergent.

Water based paint

If we are talking about the most common paints such as children's gouache, finger or watercolor, then you are lucky and you can simply wash the product with laundry soap or washing powder. Gouache is also an oil paint, so before washing the stain should be treated with dishwashing detergent. A thing stained with a water-based composition is better leave for several hours in cold waterand then wash with laundry soap.

If the stain is too persistent, you can use alcohol - apply a small amount to the dirt and treat with a clean cloth. Acrylic paint is removed by washing with the addition of two ingredients that are found in every home - vinegar and soda.

For a difficult stain, adding ammonia to this mixture can help. To remove latex paints, alcohol treatment is suitable.

Types of jacket fabrics

Your jacket may be made from a variety of fabrics, and not all of them can be affected by all of the substances listed above.

Products made of natural or artificial leather.

Water-soluble paint can be tried to wash with water, gently wiping. The brush cannot be used. Oil paints can be removed with turpentine, alcohol and pure gasoline, they can be treated with nail polish remover without acetone. It is better to use castor oil or a special cream for the care of leather things after cleaning. Perfect for cleaning vegetable oil. It will gently remove even the oldest stain. But in order not to leave grease stains, it will be necessary to wipe the material leather cleanser.

Synthetic materials

Polyester raincoats and jackets should not be cleaned with strong cleaners as they can damage the fabric. The stain remover composition can be prepared from vegetable oil and laundry powder and the resulting mixture can be used to clean the stain with a brush or sponge before washing. Bologna material for outerwear is very common. The contaminated surface must be treated gasoline, turpentine or alcohol.

It is better to cover the place with a film so that the cleaner works better, and then the thing can be washed. Another method for removing stains from a bologna jacket is cleaning with a mixture of equal parts of ammonia and oxalic acid taken. After processing, washing is also necessary.

Festival of colors

Recently, Indian entertainment has become very popular in our country - the holiday of colors Holi. According to tradition, such paints are made from plant components, and it can be very difficult to remove them from a thing. Jackets should not be exposed to boiling and bleach, so you will have to use the usual stain removers or bleach in the case of white. And ammonia will cope well with complex pollution.

Secrets of gentle cleaning

The most important piece of advice that will come in handy for working at home is that for any exposure, first test the solution in an inconspicuous place on the jacket to avoid irreparable stains or holes.

When removing stains, the color of the fabric must be taken into account. Dark, black, blue, bright green and red jackets are popular, but often not the best color quality.Poorly applied dye can be damaged by turpentine or solvent, so if you are going to clean a white bologna jacket, you are somewhat less likely to ruin it. White items can be additionally treated with bleach when washing. Paint stains are advised to be treated with heat: Heat with an iron or cover with a film, but it is better not to apply these methods to leather products. Wave-like defects may appear on the fabric.

After cleaning, you need to wash the item, but it is better to do this several times to get rid of the smell of chemical solutions, which can sometimes be very persistent. Imported solvents are often less pungent and are therefore preferred.
