Smooth delicate skin and the absence of unnecessary hairs is what every woman strives for. And the beauty industry does not get tired of delighting us with new and modern ways to get rid of them. But there are time-tested procedures, those that have been trusted by the beauties of the whole world from time immemorial. One of these procedures is hair removal with sugar paste.

What it is?

To begin with, let's separate the concepts of "epilation" and "depilation". Epilation is the removal of hairs along with the bulb, depilation is the fight only with the visible part of the hair shaft. Epilation procedures include manipulations with a laser, wax, sugar paste, photo and electrolysis. For depilation - shaving and the use of special creams and mousses.

Sugar hair removal or shugaring is getting rid of excess hair with the help of caramel paste. This is one of the oldest ways to achieve smooth skin, which came to us from Ancient Egypt. In our country, he gained popularity not so long ago, but has already found his devoted fans.

The fact is that its effectiveness is very high, the cost is quite acceptable, and there are much fewer side effects than a similar waxing procedure. Sugar not only does an excellent job of removing hair, it also nourishes the skin, prevents ingrown and breaking hairs. The procedure of shugaring is carried out both in beauty salons and at home.

At the moment, the most popular are the manual and bandage techniques of its execution.

Difference from manual technology

The manual technique of shugaring is the removal of hairs on the body with the help of sugar paste and hands, bandage involves the use of strips, as in waxing. This is their main difference. Also, the consistency of the material is slightly different: manual technology involves more solid varieties of paste, bandage - more liquid.

And one more thing: the length of the hairs for the manual procedure should not exceed 5 mm, when using a hair bandage, a longer one is required - about 7 mm.

What will be needed?

If you decide to do sugaring at home on your own, you need to purchase all the necessary accessories. First, it is, of course, the pasta itself. For the bandage shugaring procedure, choose a liquid mixture. On some of these products there is a special mark that the paste is intended specifically for the use of bandages.

Second, buy disposable wooden spatulas. With their help, you will apply and distribute the composition over the area selected for epilation.

And, thirdly, bandage strips. These are special polymer strips that are glued to the area covered with paste and torn off, removing excess hairs.Get enough of them, as the expense will be quite high, especially the first time. Below are also some life hacks that you can use to replace store-bought strips.

What store products to choose?

Let's take a closer look at shugaring paste. You can make your own caramel mixture at home or buy the mixture you need from the store.

Based on consumer preferences, we have identified 3 products worthy of attention:

  • 1st place caramel paste rightfully occupies the rating Aravia "Start Epil"very simple and easy to use. The line is represented by 7 pastes of various degrees of density, so you can easily decide which one you need. Even beginners can use this product.
  • 2nd place there is a wonderful product from a Russian manufacturer, universal paste Gloria. Contains only natural caring ingredients, has a wide variety of density and packaging options. Another advantage is the affordable price.
  • 3rd place we give to a paste more suitable for professional use - cannaan. There are 4 options: from the hardest to super soft. The product is simple and easy to use, suitable for any type of shugaring and for a specialist of any degree of preparedness.

Pasta Recipes

However, it is quite possible to master the preparation of the mixture for the sugar hair removal procedure and try to make it at home, especially since all the components necessary for this are quite cheap and available for purchase at any grocery store. Let's get started.

Lemon

Take 10 tbsp. granulated sugar, half a lemon and 1 tbsp. water.Separately, prepare and set aside a cup of cold water for now, you will need it later. So, squeeze the juice from the lemon and mix with the rest of the products. This should be done either in a metal bowl or in a small saucepan. Mix well, cover with a lid and put on low heat. Keep track of what will happen. Sugar should melt, but before bubbles appear. If the mixture boils, but individual grains are still visible, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. After a few minutes (10-15 is enough), put the pasta on the fire again, this time without covering it. The mixture should take on a caramel color. When it boils, wait 2-3 minutes and scoop out a small amount with a spoon. Drop prepared cold water. If the mass thickens, but at the same time remains plastic and pliable, like chewing gum, it is ready. You can pour the mixture into a suitable container, cool and start using.

With citric acid

If desired, the lemon can be replaced with its derivative - citric acid. For this you need 2 tbsp. l. water, 6 tbsp. l . sugar and ½ tbsp. acids. Strictly observe the proportions, otherwise the paste may turn out to be too liquid.

So, mix all the ingredients in an enameled saucepan, mix, put on fire. After 1 minute, turn off the stove for 10 minutes, stirring the mixture occasionally to obtain a uniform consistency. Then turn on the burner again and continue cooking for 4 minutes. The degree of readiness of the paste is determined in the same way as in the previous case.

Microwave cooking

Yes, this modern and much-loved household appliance can help you a lot in making sugaring caramel. You will need a quarter cup of honey, a cup of sugar and a quarter cup of lemon juice. First, mix the juice and honey, then pour in the granulated sugar. Mix well, put in the microwave for 15 seconds, setting the maximum temperature. Remove, stir until bubbles disappear. Put it back in the microwave for the same amount of time. And do this until the mixture gets the desired look and consistency. Check the pasta for readiness as described above.

Acetic

To prepare the mixture according to this recipe, take 6 tbsp. sugar, 1 tbsp. 6% table or apple cider vinegar and 2 tbsp. water. Mix all the ingredients in an enamel bowl, put on the stove over low heat, wait until it boils. Raise the temperature control 1 notch and cook the caramel until tender, stirring occasionally and checking to see if it has reached the desired thickness by dropping the mixture into cold water.

Sugaring paste is not enough just to cook, it still needs to be stored properly. Plastic containers, jars, silicone molds are suitable for this. The lid of the selected container must be tightly closed to prevent moisture from entering.

The finished mass can be put in the refrigerator or on a shelf for cosmetics. If it hardens, reheat it in the microwave, but don't bring it to a boil, otherwise the paste will spoil.

What can replace the strips?

For the procedure of bandage shugaring, special strips are used - bandages. They are sold in any cosmetic store, they have different sizes to treat different areas on the face and body.

There are the following types of bandages: made of paper, intended for single use; from fabric - washing and reuse is allowed, and from polymeric materials - the highest quality, but also much more expensive than the two previous types. They can be purchased along with the paste and used during the procedure. However, if you want to minimize your expenses for home shugaring, it makes sense to think about replacing purchased bandages with strips made from improvised materials.

For these purposes, regular printer paper may be suitable. You only need to cut it into strips of a suitable size and you can proceed with the procedure. However, paper bandages have a significant disadvantage: fragility. No matter how thick the paper is, it can tear at the most inopportune moment. In no case do not use a newspaper or notebook sheet - they are printed with ink and this can be bad for the skin.

Another affordable option that can be used instead of professional materials is fabric strips cut from old bedding or towels.

It is important that the fabric contains 100% cotton, synthetics are excluded. After shugaring, these strips can be washed and reused.
