Stainless steel appliances are more popular than aluminum ones. They are durable and, as a rule, do not cause trouble to their owners. Such items do not require special care. It is enough to immediately wash the kitchen utensils with dishwashing detergent and a soft sponge after eating, preventing food residues from drying out. But it happens that plaque and fat are eaten in, after which it becomes impossible to wash them with a conventional remedy. This is where the question arises, how can you return your favorite things to their original purity at home? Our advice will help answer it.

How to care?

There are different ways to care for stainless steel kitchen utensils:

  • Boiling or soaking in solution.
  • Cleaning with homemade products.
  • Cleaning with food.
  • Cleaning with household chemicals and others;

Let's consider each of them in detail.

Boiling or soaking in solution

To prepare the first solution, you will need:

  • Foil - 2 pieces (size 20x20 cm).
  • Salt - 2 liters.
  • Boiling water - 1 l.
  • The bowl is plastic.

Take a bowl and place one piece of foil on the bottom, then place on it all the spoons and forks that need to be cleaned, add two tablespoons of salt. Cover the appliances on top with a second piece of foil and pour boiling water over everything. You will feel a specific smell similar to hydrogen sulfide.

If you do not tolerate such aromas or do not want to inhale the fumes, use a mask.

Let the composition stand for approximately 5-10 minutes. Take the utensils out of the water and wash them. Use a toothbrush for maximum cleanliness. It will help to clear all hard-to-reach places. Use a soft cloth when you wipe your appliances.

To prepare another magical solution you will need:

  • Soda - 2 tsp.
  • Shell from two eggs.
  • Water - 1 liter.
  • Pot.

Pour water into a saucepan, add 2 tsp baking soda and egg shells. Place your spoons and forks in this solution, boil for 15 minutes. Then rinse them with a sponge using your usual dishwashing detergent.

To prepare the following remedy, take:

  • Soda - 1/3 pack (or 5-7 liters).
  • Stationery or silicate glue - 1/2 bottle.
  • Water - 1 l.
  • Pot.

Place the stainless steel utensils in a saucepan, fill them with water. Put the dishes on the fire and add soda and glue to it. Boil appliances for 5-7 minutes. Rinse your utensils thoroughly afterwards.

To get another solution, you will need:

  • Soda - 4 l.
  • Mustard (powder) - 4 l.
  • Boiling water - 1 liter.
  • Saucepan or bowl.

You need to pour boiling water into a basin or pan, add soda and mustard. Stir until the ingredients are completely dissolved. Place the instruments in water and leave for 15-20 minutes. Rinse the forks with plain water. Wipe dry.

The following solution can be prepared in this way, take:

  • Soda - 2 liters.
  • Vinegar - 1 l.
  • Citric acid - 2 liters.
  • Boiled water - 500 ml.
  • Pot.

It is necessary to mix all the ingredients and pour the solution into a saucepan in which you previously folded the stainless steel forks and spoons. Put the pan on a slow fire for half an hour. After that, you need to thoroughly rub all the appliances with a toothbrush, paying special attention to patterns and hard-to-reach places. Then you need to rinse them in running water and wipe with a soft cloth to avoid streaks.

homemade remedies

Dentifrice

This method is the easiest to prepare, but the one who will clean it will have to put in a lot of effort to return the spoons and forks to their original cleanliness and shine. First of all, this concerns contamination between the tines of the forks. But it is easy to get rid of this problem if you rub a sheet of sandpaper folded in half or, as they say, sandpaper, between the teeth.

Mix 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda or tooth powder with a little water to make a thick paste. Using such a paste and the hard side of a regular sponge, you can achieve excellent results. Then wash the appliances with plain water or with the addition of detergent. Wipe the items with a soft cloth, after soaking it in vinegar, so that they shine like new.

Toothpaste

Some housewives use ordinary toothpaste, but not in the form of a gel. This method will only help with small pollution. If you need a more efficient method, you need to take:

  • Soda - 2 liters.
  • Toothpaste - 1 l.
  • Vinegar - 1 l.
  • Deep bowl.

To prepare the product, all ingredients must be mixed until smooth, and then using the hard side of a sponge or toothbrush, clean the tableware. After that, rinse the devices under running water and wipe dry.

Oil and Vinegar

To clean stainless steel appliances in this way, you will need vegetable oil and vinegar. It is enough to apply oil on a sponge and wipe spoons and forks with it. You need to let them lie down for a while, then pour a little vinegar on the same sponge and walk through the polluted places. Wash items with dishwashing detergent. The visible result will not keep you waiting.

Coffee

To clean the appliances in this way, you do not need to cook anything. If you are a fan of freshly brewed coffee, all you have to do is apply coffee grounds to a sponge and rub stainless steel objects with it, and then wash and dry.

Ash

Since we are talking about improvised means, the following advice will be useful to residents of private houses or summer residents. Using ash to clean stainless steel items is an affordable and effective method. Just rub your spoons with this remedy, and there will be no trace of dirt and plaque.

Activated charcoal can be used in the same way. It is necessary to crush the required number of tablets into powder and clean the contaminated surfaces with it. Then you should rinse the tableware in warm water and dry it with a towel.

And if you add a few drops of vegetable oil to the ashes, you can get rid of rust on the metal. Although this phenomenon is quite rare, only if the steel turned out to be of poor quality.

Soap and soda

There is another universal remedy that will help to cope with any pollution in the house, including bringing stainless steel cutlery back to life.

This will require:

  • Laundry soap 75% - 100 g.
  • Soda - 75 g.
  • Warm water - 100 ml.
  • Bowl.

Laundry soap should be grated on a coarse grater and add water, then beat everything until a white cream is formed. You can use a fork, but then this process will take you a very long time. A mixer or blender is best suited for this purpose. It is enough to pour soda into the resulting thick foam, mix until smooth, after which we can assume that the product is ready. You can put it in any plastic jar and store it for a long time - it will not deteriorate.

It remains to apply the paste on the hard side of the sponge or use a toothbrush for cleaning, rub the spoons for a few seconds, and the result will not be long in coming. Then rinse and dry the appliances.

Cleaning with food

As strange as it may sound, you can use regular raw potatoes to clean stainless steel cutlery by simply rubbing spoons and forks with it. In the same way, you can get rid of dark plaque using onions. Squeeze out the juice or rub with a cut bulb of contamination on objects. To remove an unpleasant odor, rinse the stainless steel with water and your favorite product.

Some boil cutlery in potato broth. Due to the high content of starch in the solution, this method is quite effective.Such a composition is very convenient, since it does not need to be specially prepared! Simply place the utensils in the water where the potatoes were boiled and boil for 5 minutes, then rinse them under running water.

If you want to get rid of old dark spots on your appliances, lemon juice will help you. It will effectively clean stainless steel products from gray plaque.

It is enough to rub those items that need it with a piece of lemon, and polish them to a shine with a woolen cloth.

Using household chemicals

These methods are not as environmentally friendly as the previous ones, but you will be satisfied with the result. You will need a toilet cleaner, such as Domestos or Toilet Duck, which must be diluted in water in a proportion of 250 ml of the product per liter of water, then pour the necessary stainless steel items with the solution and leave for an hour, then rinse until the smell disappears. It is better to use dishwashing detergent.

Also, if you pay attention, in supermarkets or online stores there is a wide range of products designed for cleaning stainless steel items. It can be a spray, powder or paste.

Using such products is very simple - just apply the product on a dirty surface, rub it a little with a soft sponge, and the devices will look like you just bought them. Another advantage of such funds is they allow you to polish your forks and spoons to a shine, while eliminating scratches and damage.

Always use gloves when using chemicals!
