How is concealer different from foundation?

Girls no longer dream of a beautiful and even tone: thanks to the cosmetic industry, their dreams have long turned into reality. And even the owners of problem skin, applying makeup correctly, get a perfect face without pimples, redness or other manifestations of irritation.

To even out the tone, two cosmetic products are used: concealer and foundation. The first tool has recently appeared on the domestic market, while the second has long been present in beauty bags of beauties. Due to similar functions, these two types of decorative cosmetics are sometimes confused. Let's see how concealer differs from foundation, what are their features, and in what sequence they are applied.

This tool has a highly pigmented property, it is applied pointwise. Its main function is to mask small flaws, for example:

• pimples;
• dark circles under the eyes;
• small areas with redness.

Most often, such decorative cosmetics are applied under the eyes.

The composition of such a masking product includes a special pigment that perfectly hides a variety of spots on the face.The structure includes reflective particles that are designed to hide small flaws, giving the dermis a natural glow. If the concealer is applied to the skin under the eyes, then the “inverted triangle” technique is used, the edges of which must be shaded very carefully.

There are three types of this cosmetic product:

1. Liquid concealer - unlike foundation, its texture is thicker. Due to its lightness and almost weightlessness, it helps to disguise dark circles under the eyes. It is not used to eliminate pimples and large areas of reddened dermis.
2. Sticker or pencil - differs in density and is applied pointwise in a thin layer. After that, it must be carefully shaded. Perfectly masks pimples, scars and wrinkles, is not used for the epidermis around the eyes. Apply it in a spiral motion.
3. Mineral concealer - in its structure, it resembles a powder. To correct the flaws of the skin, you can also add its matting and antibacterial effect. It will be an excellent tool for girls who have oily or problematic dermis. It is not used on the epidermis around the eyes and is not used to mask wrinkles.

The foundation acts as the basis for creating a make-up. It is designed to even out the complexion, mask small flaws, and also has a protective and nourishing effect. This cosmetic product can be found in the cosmetic bag of almost every beauty.

The foundation differs in its density:

• light - slightly smoothes minor defects, is used by very young persons;
• dense - corrects serious imperfections and is suitable for mature skin.

There are many different types of foundation creams, for example:

• having a water or oily base;
• enriched with vitamins and antioxidants;
• which include natural oils and mineral elements.

The main ingredient of such decorative cosmetics is a color base or pigment, which is used as a coloring agent. It is customary to apply foundation after a special make-up base. It is squeezed out in small dots on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin, with the help of a brush or sponge it must be distributed with light movements, as if “driving” into the dermis.

The main difference between these two tools is as follows:

1. The foundation is not so greasy and dense texture.
2. The pigment of the cream is very similar to the natural shade of the face and is distinguished by beige, pink or olive color.
3. The concealer is available in yellow, green and orange.
4. The concealer is applied in the area under the eyes.
5. The foundation is applied to the entire face and even to the neck.

First, foundation is applied, and then concealer. To do makeup correctly, there are several recommendations for applying concealer:

• You need to apply this decorative cosmetics with warm hands, as this product does not interact well with a cold surface and lays down in lumps, not giving the expected result.
• Before using such a tool, the skin needs to be slightly moistened, for example, by moistening it with water, or using a wet brush or sponge.
• It is very important to choose the right shade of concealer. Do not forget that it should be slightly lighter than the applied foundation, but not stand out too much against its background.
• Concealer should be applied only after foundation, otherwise it will not create the expected result.

The concealer is used to sculpt the face:

1. On the T-shaped zone and the central part of the chin, such cosmetics of light shades are applied, which differs by a tone or two from the foundation.
2. The outlines of the nose and cheekbones need to be emphasized with a darker (one tone) tool.
3. To give expressiveness to the look, put a little light cosmetics under the brow ridges and in the corners of the eyes.
4. On the borders of the face, you need to use a concealer similar in color to foundation, so as not to end up with a “mask” result.

After finishing applying the concealer, you need to wait a bit until it dries. If the application lines of this concealer product are visible, then you need to apply powder on top to hide them.

These two cosmetic products act as a complement to each other. It cannot be said that one is better than the other. If you want to get the perfect look, then it's best to use both. But if you're running late for a morning meeting and there's absolutely no time for makeup, then apply concealer under your eyes. It will allow you to remove traces of lack of sleep, making your look cheerful and fresh, as if you had just taken a contrast shower.

The foundation in this case can do harm, making your image tired and emphasizing small wrinkles in the eye area. Therefore, it is not recommended to apply foundation on the areas under the eyes. Do not use concealer and foundation instead of each other. Using two tools in combination, you can create a perfectly even tone that will emphasize your strengths and hide defects.
