In modern women's fashion, there are a large number of stylish women's accessories, among them there was a place for a headdress, which was popular back in the thirties.

Such a model was created by the famous headwear designer Carolina Rebo, but the big disadvantage of the cloche hat was that such an accessory was not relevant for many styles of clothing and did not fit many face and figure shapes. Probably for this reason, such hats were forgotten for a long time and recently returned to women's fashion again.

Stylish accessory

It is not so easy to trace the history of hats, because they appeared, as an accessory, a very long time ago.

The biggest adherents of this headdress were the French and the British, where the presence of a hat was considered an obligatory detail in the image of a real lady. Today, the attitude towards hats is ambiguous, it cannot be said that without them it is impossible to look fashionable.

In most cases, such a headdress is used in the summer to protect from the sun's rays, but there are also more classic models that can even be combined with an evening style of clothing.

The most popular are wide-brimmed hats, which are more practical because they do not require certain face shapes, more miniature ones are used with caution.

What it is

A cloche hat is a female headdress sewn in the shape of a bell. Such hats can have a small visor or bulky brim, or can be made without these additions.

Such a headdress is made taking into account the use for slender women with small features. It is unacceptable for puffy beauties with rounded or oblong features to wear a hat of this style, since the bell tends to emphasize all the flaws of the face and figure.

Another feature of such a stylish accessory is that it can be combined with clothing in the style of the thirties: low-rise dresses, loose trousers, puffy fur coats and coats just above the knee. Do not wear a bell hat with jeans, short skirts or evening dresses.

It will be risky to combine a bell with business attire, although there are several alternatives here. It should be noted that modern cloche hats have several varieties:

  • knitted hats;
  • felted (felt) cloche hats;
  • felt - this is a classic material for making bell hats;
  • downy;
  • textile;
  • hats with curved brim;
  • with classic short fields;
  • borderless;
  • straw hats, as a summer option.

How to combine with a scarf

Many women are interested in the question of how to combine cloche hats with other types of accessories? In contrast to the difficulty with combining clothes, additional accessories are perfectly combined with this type of headdress.

For knitted models, a snood scarf of the same color and type of knitting is perfect. You can also pick up a simple knitted scarf, preferably not too voluminous. After all, such models are better combined with winter hats.

Classic models of cloche hats look good with a stole or other types of scarves that have a wide long shape, but do not differ in the thickness of the fabric. Another great solution is a scarf in the shape of a scarf, such an accessory will emphasize the elegance of the headdress.

What to wear

As for the combination of a headdress with different types of clothing, the statement that the cloche does not fit all variants of models is correct. But at the same time, these hats look very good with skirts and casual dresses with a straight cut.

You can combine this stylish accessory with trouser suits or flared skirts that diverge in width from the middle of the thigh. Even modern tunics and leggings, together with a cloche hat, will create a good stylish look.

From outerwear, such hats are preferred by long fur coats, medium-length coats and any kind of raincoat. You should not complement an ordinary jacket or down jacket with a hat, because such a combination will look ridiculous and tasteless.

Cloche hats

Initially, only hats could have a bell shape, but over time, this style began to be used to create other types of hats. Cloche hats are popular among consumers; this model resembles the classic version only in its shape.

But, unlike a hat, a hat has no brim, which makes it suitable for virtually any stylish look and face shape. Such hats can be knitted and sewn from different materials. More practical are options made of elastic fabrics.

Who invented this accessory

As mentioned above, the author of the cloche hat is a well-known designer - Carolina Rebo. Bell-shaped headdresses, at one time, were considered a truly French version of accessories, but over time, the fashion for them spread throughout Europe.

Given the wide variety of models of cloche hats, many fashion designers can be safely called the author of this headdress. Who put a lot of effort and imagination to improve this model. Modern bell hats have the most original style variations and fashionable additions from bows, ribbons, pebbles, to veils and flowers.

Fashion trends from the invention to the present day

In its original form, cloche hats had short brim and were decorated with a ribbon. The ribbon was considered not a simple accessory, but a real informer who could give certain information about the owner of the hat.

A ribbon tied with a knot indicated that the woman was married. A ribbon with an arrow indicated that the owner was not married, but her heart was occupied. A bright bow on the hat said that the girl was looking for a life partner and was not against communicating with the opposite sex.

But modern models are not always decorated with ribbons. Often such an accessory does not have decorations at all. Pebbles, embroidery, prints in the form of flowers, twigs, etc. are used as decoration.

The models themselves have also changed, which today can be both slanted, and with a bent end of the fabric, and with or without non-uniform fields.

knitted

Knitted models of cloche hats appeared relatively recently, they made this accessory more versatile. Considering that not all women are destined to have a fragile figure and a small face, the cloche has actually lost its relevance.After all, only a few could afford such a hat.

But knitted models, despite the fact that they retain their original cloche shape, look a bit like a regular hat. Almost every woman can afford such a style. In addition, knitted options are easier to combine with different types of clothing.

felted

Felted wool is considered a very popular material for making a bell hat today. Felting is a fairly simple way of making and, according to needlewomen, you can even do such things yourself. From felted wool, moderately hard hats that fit the head are obtained, which differ not only in their style, but also in their heat-saving effect.

Felted hats with additional decoration with beads or other shiny elements look very fashionable. The disadvantage of such models is that in their form they are as close as possible to the original bell and simply do not suit everyone.

Wet felting

Nowadays, different methods are used to make bell hats. But one of the most interesting and simple is wet felting.

With this option, natural wool is used, which can be bought at a regular store. This wool is laid on a film, on which the shape of the product that is planned to be made is outlined with paper tape. The laid out wool is covered with a net and passed over it with a rolling pin, slightly crushing.

Next, the wool is sprayed with soapy water, after which they begin to smooth it with their hands until it falls into a dense layer. An indicator that the wool has felted is that it lags behind the mesh and does not fall off in layers, but is held as a whole fabric.After the wool has felted, it is rinsed with warm water to wash off the soap residue, and spread on any surface to dry. When the thing dries, it is ready for use.

Cloche cap

The most original version of the cloche is considered to be a cap, which has the shape of a half bowler hat with a visor. For sewing such a headdress, hard fabrics or felt are used. This stylish accessory can even be combined with a regular jacket and jeans.

Such a model is called a cloche cap through the top, which resembles the head of a bell. Such caps will be a great solution for many stylish looks, especially for youth.

Many years ago, the cap was considered an exclusively male headdress, but over time, women have given it a place in their fashion.

A cap is considered a spring and autumn version of a headdress, for which any type of trousers will be relevant. Skirts will not be superfluous here, especially short flared or other types of casual wear.

Do not be afraid of bold decisions, purchase such stylish accessories as a hat or a cloche cap, always look bright and impressive.
