How to fold a shirt: effective ways
You always want to look nice and neat, but it is not always possible to iron things just before leaving the house. It is especially important for men that the shirt looks fresh and neat. Not always the most effective way is to hang things on hangers. To prevent the shirt from wrinkling in the closet, it is enough to fold it correctly.
How to fold
Before folding a shirt, you need to prepare it:
- Of course, the shirt needs to be ironed. If you are going to fold several shirts, iron them all first, it will be easier and faster. First iron the collar, then the sleeves, and only after that the shelves and back.
- Allow shirts to cool after ironing. Freshly ironed fabric wrinkles very quickly. Hang the shirts on hangers and fasten the top button. In this state, let them hang for half an hour.
- After the shirt has cooled, fasten all buttons and lay the shirt on a flat surface with the back up. Smooth it out with your hands so that it is absolutely even, without wrinkles.
With long sleeve
- Visually divide the shirt into three lengthwise sections. We bend the left third on the back.
- We straighten the sleeve parallel to the side of the shirt. It is better to leave the cuffs unbuttoned.
- Repeat the same steps on the right side.
- The resulting rectangle is folded three times. First, the lower part, about the width of a palm, is wrapped onto the back. The resulting new rectangle is folded in half.
- Now you can stack in a neat stack in a closet or suitcase.
Another option to fold a shirt, very similar to the previous one. The only difference is the sleeves. The first sleeve is not stretched along the seams, but neatly folded into three folds in the upper third of the shirt. The cuff should be opened and smoothed as much as possible. The second sleeve is pulled in length, and the cuff, buttoned this time, is folded up to the edge of the collar.
Short-sleeve
A shirt with a short sleeve folds similarly to a shirt with a long sleeve, with the only difference being that you are spared from additional manipulations with the sleeves.
Polo
Polo shirts and T-shirts are rarely hung on a coat hanger, but in the meantime, they will also wrinkle in the closet if they are not folded correctly. There are two simple methods.
The first - the T-shirt is laid out on a flat surface, smoothed out with your hands. The sleeves are tucked to the center, after which it folds first along and then across.
The second - the polo shirt, also aligned on a smooth surface, is folded in half lengthwise, the sleeves are tucked up, and then folded across two or three times.
In a suitcase
- If you are packing a suitcase, then before folding the shirt, place a rectangle of thick cardboard inside on the back. This is done by packing shirts in production. Cardboard fixes the shirt when folded and it keeps its shape longer. You can take a rectangle from the factory packaging or cut it yourself.
- To prevent expensive shirts from getting dirty and shedding on the road, wrap each with wrapping paper before packing in a suitcase. Or use the dedicated storage pockets.
- In order not to deform the solid collar, fold the shirts right sides to each other with a "jack" - the collar of the top shirt to the hem of the bottom one.
- Some shirts are sold with special plastic collar and cuff holders. This is the perfect option for a trip, which does not allow the collar to wrinkle. If you threw away the holders, or the shirt was sold without them, then you can put some soft, light things inside the collar, for example, a thin scarf.
- When packing shirts made of delicate fabrics, as well as polo shirts, in a suitcase, you can not fold, but roll up. It is much simpler and does not leave longitudinal and transverse folds on delicate fabrics.
The shirt, just like when folding, is leveled on a hard surface with the back up, fastened with all buttons. The sleeves are folded back exactly along the line of the shoulder seam, stacked along the side seams, and the shirt is folded lengthwise three times and wrapped from the bottom up into a roll. When rolling this way, do not make your roll too tight, so as not to deform the fabric. The collar does not roll up at all - it remains outside, and the thing is put into the suitcase with the collar down.
On the road
If you often go on business trips and need to look brand new upon arrival, there are a few more tricks:
- For those who travel often, they came up with a special bag for carrying shirts and suits - a bag. It makes sense to buy it.
- If you don’t have the funds or the desire to buy a suitcase, give preference to a suitcase with hard walls, things in it crumple less.
- When packing your suitcase, make sure shirts and light items are on top. Otherwise, no matter how well they are folded, creases will remain at the folds.
- If during transportation things are still slightly wrinkled, do not be discouraged. Hang them on hangers and hang them over a hot tub. They straighten out pretty quickly.
How to quickly fold
Are you always in a hurry and folding shirts seems like a very long procedure to you? There is a unique way to fold a shirt in just two seconds! It is called the Japanese t-shirt folding method.
- It is necessary to lay out the shirt on a horizontal surface with the front side up. Now mentally draw two lines - one from top to bottom from the middle of the right shoulder, parallel to the side seam. At the top of this line is point B, at the bottom - point C. The second line runs perpendicular to the first, approximately in the middle of the shirt. Point A is at the intersection of these two lines.
- Take the shirt with your left hand at point A, and with your right hand at point B. Make sure that you grab the fabric not only on the front, but also on the back. Pinch the fabric between your thumb and forefinger.
- Bring your right hand to point C. The hand moves in a straight line and passes over the left. Grab the shirt at point C with your right hand. Make sure you capture the entire shirt here as well, not just the fabric on the front.
- Straighten your arms with a sharp movement. At the same time, lift the T-shirt off the surface and shake gently.
- If you did everything right, the shirt is now hanging from your arms with the remaining sleeve down. Lay it back on the surface so that the sleeve touches it first and the rest of the shirt rests on it.
This method is suitable for all shirts, polo shirts and T-shirts with short sleeves.
