When very hot weather sets in in summer and neither shade nor cold water saves, many people's health deteriorates sharply and it is completely incomprehensible how one can remain able-bodied and maintain normal health under such conditions.

Those who have such an opportunity simply do not leave the house, but turn on the air conditioner and create a normal microclimate in their home. But what about those who have work on the street or those who intend to spend a hot day with friends on a picnic, hiking or fishing?

For this, a wonderful little thing was invented - cooling bandage. It is called just a scarf from the sun, and a cooling bandana, and a sweat scarf, and a cooler - but whatever you call it, the principle of operation is the same for her - the bandage cools the head, saving from the heat and improves well-being.

It happens like this: a bandage soaked in water, through the action of special polymers, can give you the desired coolness for several hours.

The summer headband is cooling and icy.It is enough to moisten the cooling one in water, and the ice bandage is filled with special gel bags.

These dressings are filled with hydrogel, and when they fall into the water, it swells. When the liquid from the gel crystals evaporates, the person's skin gives off its heat to the dressing. The bandage will be the cooler, the lower the level of humidity.

How to make your own

This product is made from any cotton fabric and hydrogel (go to any gardening store for it). The cost of this tool is about one dollar for a small bag. But you won't need more. After all, if in the dry form the hydrogel seems to be very small, then when soaked, you will be surprised how much it becomes.

To make your own cooling bandage, first decide what size it should be and where your bandage will be applied. If this is a neck accessory, measure the length with a margin so that it does not turn out to be tight and is comfortable to wear.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • a piece of fabric is taken from 80 cm to one meter in length and from 10 to 12 cm in width. Fold the fabric in half along the longitudinal line inside out;
  • sew the entire length and one edge. Now you need to turn the product right side out;
  • retreat 20 cm from the lock and make a line. It is needed to limit the hydrogel only in the center of the product;
  • take a hydrogel (a teaspoon without a top, even half a teaspoon is possible) and fill the bandage with it. A lot of funds in this case can lead to the rigidity of the finished product, it will be uncomfortable to wear it;
  • now make a line 20 cm from the open end, and then sew the end itself.

Done, now it remains to make sure that everything is done correctly - dip the bandage in cold water, the hydrogel will absorb water, it will become larger, it will be evenly distributed throughout the bandage and you will see how comfortable the product will be to wear.

The resulting cooling device can be used repeatedly. When it dries, it simply re-immerses in cold water and you will again have the opportunity to get relief in the unbearable heat.

"Evaporative Cooling Bandana Ergodyne Chill-Its 6700CT"

This bandana will hold moisture for up to five hours. A special polymer is used in its manufacture, and therefore moisture is absorbed in a larger amount, and it stays longer in this scarf than in others. The colors are very different - both cowboys working on a ranch and fashionistas attending yoga or fitness classes will find options for themselves. Girls, of course, will like bright products that have recently managed to become quite a fashionable accessory. The color palette has seven options, so both the guy and the woman can choose the right accessory. You will have to pay at least $3 for such a bandana.

"Evaporative Cooling Bandana-Tie Ergodyne Chill-Its 6700"

This is a budget bandana. The cost of the model is $2, this is a classic cooling scarf. Here, moisture is absorbed a little less, and it evaporates after 2-3 hours, depending on how hot it is outside. The colors are also very different: reminiscent of the national American flag, for bikers, with the image of fire, camouflage and others.

The democratic nature of the price affected the quality - the fabric is too thin, and therefore dries quickly. But for a summer resident who needs to tinker in the sun for a couple of hours in the garden and not fall down with a heat stroke - that's what you need.

"MiraCool Cooling Bandanas"

And this is a model for a long stay in the heat. It has the longest cooling time (five or more hours - depending on the weather) and costs from $8. The fact is that the "stuffing" of this product consists of bags, inside of which there is a special gel - they are the whole secret. The sachets give the bandana a “pot-bellied” appearance, as if it had been specially inflated. It takes 20 minutes to soak this accessory.

The colors are also in full order here - you can find it for gardeners and golfers.

"Mission Multi-Cool by Mission"

The price of this stylish transforming scarf is from $12. An ordinary cooling bandana is much smaller, and with this scarf you can cool both your head and neck at once. The product can be worn in twelve ways, for example, as a simple scarf or as a mask that protects in strong winds when dust and sand flies into the eyes. This material will retain moisture for two hours.

The choice of colors allows you to choose an accessory for both a construction worker and a girl for a morning run.

"Ice" alternative

Some people find it unpleasant to constantly feel a wet cloth on their head, even when it is hot. There can be no question of any comfort here, if the hands are reaching out to rip off the boring accessory and throw it away. Others have such a nuisance as an allergic reaction to constantly wet skin. A cooling bandana will not work for such people. But there is a way out - an “ice” bandana.

This accessory is used after it lies in the refrigerator. Wetting it is not required, the “filling” consists of a sealed insert filled with a special gel that can maintain the temperature that it “charged” for a long time while in the freezer.

Such a bandage does not stick to the scalp and will save you from overheating for two hours, and then the gel plates will need to be frozen again. In appearance, this accessory is more massive and does not look like a regular bandage. The volume of the product is increased due to the gel plates and on the head it looks like a not very clear rubber device.

But if you forget about glamor, then you can easily drive a car in forty-degree heat or go hiking on a hot summer day with such an accessory.

"IceDay Wraptor ThermaFreeze Ice Bandana"

The product is "Ice" bandana made of dense and soft material with Velcro. You will have to pay for it from $ 10, it has long straps for the most comfortable fixation of this product on the head. The colors are very different: red, pink, blue, gray and camouflage.

Maybe someone will find this device eccentric, but it is obvious that the manufacturers still worked on the freedom of style. And when the goal is to cool off, sitting for hours in the heat with a fishing rod in a secluded place, then somehow high fashion is not remembered. Another thing is important here - a cooler bag at hand with replaceable gel bags. With its presence, four hours of heat will definitely scare you.
