Warm food and hot tea make outdoor recreation more fulfilling and enjoyable. Tourists use kettles and other containers as dishes for boiling water, but before making tea, such a vessel must be freed from other food and thoroughly washed. To save yourself from these problems, you can go camping with a special tourist kettle, designed exclusively for boiling water.

Peculiarities

Camping kettles differ from conventional models in their smaller capacity. Otherwise, these are the same products made from different materials, there are even electric models with hidden heating elements. A camping kettle is an essential attribute of outdoor recreation with children, as parents often need to quickly heat water for baby food or sterilize bottles.

The kettle will be a great help when preparing other dishes. For example, boiled water can be used to brew instant noodles, dilute a dry soup set, or use liquid to dilute a thickened sauce.

Water in a special kettle boils much faster than in a bulky pot, and thanks to the variety of models, each tourist will be able to choose the option that is most suitable for a particular case.

Varieties

Tourist teapots can be made from different materials. The most popular are the following options.

  • Steel. The steel teapot is one of the most sought after items. It is comfortable, reliable, but not very suitable for hiking. The fact is that the steel product has a large mass, that is, it will significantly increase the load during the trip. It is better to use the steel option during a cycling or car holiday.
  • Aluminum. Lighter weight option. It boils water quickly, and besides, it is quite cheap, but still it is not the most successful product. Firstly, this material is characterized by softness and brittleness, and therefore it is quickly deformed. Secondly, during boiling, the aluminum walls of the vessel release harmful acids, which, together with the liquid, enter the human body and can adversely affect human health.
  • Anodized aluminium. It has the same advantages and disadvantages as the classic aluminum kettle. This option is very popular in Europe, it is appreciated for its ease of use and durability. A good choice for a multi-day hike.
  • Titanium. Durable, durable, lightweight product that does not weigh down the backpack. A titanium kettle is easy to clean and wash, easy to care for, it does not react chemically with liquid, but models made of titanium are quite expensive.
  • Electric kettle. This option is suitable for a trip to the country house or recreation center. This is a great replacement for a travel boiler. A camping electric kettle has a smaller volume and low power.

How to choose?

One of the main criteria when buying is the volume of the kettle. It is important to choose a capacity based on the number of people who will use the kettle on a hike.Obviously, the more people gather, the larger the volume of the kettle will be required. Usually for a large company consisting of 3-4 people, it is recommended to choose a container with a volume of 1.5-2 liters. This is enough not only for a cup of coffee for everyone, but also for a supplement.

For single hunters or fishermen, a vessel with a capacity of 0.5-0.75 liters is suitable. Such a compact product does not take up much space in a backpack, does not increase the load, and the volume is enough to give tea to one person.

Immediately decide on the purpose of the kettle. So, many models are offered complete with gas burners. Do not buy this option if you need a campfire kettle, as it is practically impossible to hang it over the flame, and the plastic can burn. If a tourist needs a kettle for a gas burner, then this instance is the best solution.

If a product for a burner is selected, then pay attention to fixing the handle - this element must be strong and reliable, since the container rises and moves by the handle.

Pay attention to the nose. It is important that it is convenient for the tourist to pour water from it into cups, while the liquid should not splash. For example, anodized aluminum teapots are safer in this regard - these models have small spouts, so the jet is poured exactly into the mug without splashing scalding boiling water around it.

Examine the cover carefully. It should not have defects, holes, cracks. Even a small hole will cause steam to escape when the kettle is tilted, resulting in a hand burn. Inspect the bottom of the selected sample - it should be perfectly flat so that the traveler can leave it on a flat surface without any problems, without fear that the boiling vessel will tip over in field conditions. If the set includes a strainer for tea leaves, then make sure that there is a handle that will allow you to remove it from the kettle.

The shape of the teapot is chosen taking into account personal aesthetic preferences, and is also determined by the specifics of the trip.. There are models with a classic long spout - such a kettle is not very convenient to carry in a backpack, as the spout will take up a lot of space. In this case, it is recommended to choose a model with a short spout or an option made in the form of a large flask - these items, due to their shape, will fit more successfully in a hiking bag.

Models

Pay attention to the popular models of camping kettles, made of different materials and having both pros and cons.

Feast T4

The Feast T4 teapot from the Fire-Maple company is executed anodized aluminum. The volume of the product is 1.5 liters. Users appreciated the small weight of the sample - only 236 g. The benefits also include folding handle, which allows you to easily place the kettle in your backpack when hiking. Tourists also like the presence of a mesh case in which it is possible to store or transport the product. This is the most preferred option for a gas burner if a large company is going on a trip. The fact is that usually kettles for gas burners are offered in volumes up to 1 liter, in this case, the vessel allows you to boil a larger volume of water.

Among the shortcomings are problems with hanging the kettle over the fire. Although in general this feature is typical for any kettles designed for gas burners. Even if you manage to securely place the kettle over the fire, the rubber-plastic overlay on the handle may suddenly melt. Also, users did not particularly appreciate the narrow filling hole: to save backpack space, you could store some things in the kettle during the trip, but the small hole does not allow you to put them there.

Glacier Stainless Tea Kettle

This GSI variant is made of 18-8 stainless steel and has a capacity of just under a liter, so the model is used when traveling alone or in pairs. Weight for such a small kettle is not too small - 264 g. The main advantage of the instance is the possibility of using it both on a fire and on a gas burner.

Hanging the kettle over the fire allows a protrusion on a metal handle, which, by the way, can be fixed in three positions. In this case, the filling hole is very wide, which tourists could not help but appreciate: it can carry a standard gas cylinder.

Of the minuses, it is again noted small volume. If the capacity is enough for two people to drink tea, then a couple of tourists may not count on other needs. Therefore, sometimes the water has to be boiled again.

Tefal KO 1021

In this version, an electric travel kettle is presented. Its main feature is the included set of dishes, consisting of cups with spoons. Also, the advantages include a removable filter, which purifies water well from scale and impurities. An important indicator is the price of the product - this is a pretty economical option. Of the pluses, the presence of a light indicator also stands out, safety shutdown function and voltage regulator 110V/220V.

Among the shortcomings, a small volume is noted - only 0.4 liters. Through the windows in the walls, you can track the water level, but there is no clear scale, which makes operation somewhat difficult.
