The rest were frightened off by the fact that the waterproof fabric had a sharp unpleasant odor. Another significant disadvantage was that the rubberized material melted in the heat. It wasn't until 1839 that Charles Goodyear invented vulcanized rubber to solve this problem.

Martin and Sinatra were fans of this type of outerwear. Later, macs regularly appeared in the collections of fashion houses Celine and Hermes.
