A bit of history

The history of the emergence of the modern version of the parka model goes back to the middle of the last century - 1959. The famous N-3B, which later served as a model for other park options, was created in America by Alpha Industries (“Alpha Industries”) for the US Air Force. Interestingly, this model was the last in a series of selection of parkas for extreme cold conditions, starting in 1940.

Attracting the attention of a customer as large and reputable as the Department of Defense was a huge success for Alpha Industries and a confirmation of the value of the developed clothing in a harsh climate.

In the 1959 model, the material of the top cover was nylon. Between the lining and the outer material was a rather heavy layer of wool. Additionally, rather for reasons of practicality, a high-quality finish was made from natural coyote fur. Many lovers of fashion history say that the very idea of the parka, in turn, was borrowed from the everyday life of the northern peoples - the Eskimos and Aleuts, Khanty and Mansi. They made such a thing from the skins of animals treated with fat.

In the vastness of the Soviet Union, the park gained popularity around the 1970s. This was facilitated by the combination of a rather simple, but at the same time unusual product against the backdrop of outerwear offered domestically, excellent appearance and functionality.

What is it and what does it look like

A parka is an outerwear that is a long jacket, usually just above the knees, although the length of modern models can vary up to shin length.

Previously, a distinctive detail was a kind of hood. Put on the head, it resembled a pipe, somewhat limiting the view. But, at the same time, such a design provided protection from rain or wind falling under the park. The possibility of regulation with the help of a lace and clasps assumed the preservation of heat and made it possible to wear it both in extreme cold and with a slight decrease in comfortable temperature.

Now the park has a wide variety of models. The distinctive details of this wardrobe item is the simplicity of the style - as a rule, it is a straight cut that can be “fitted” with the help of a lace sewn into the array of the product. A zipper is used as a fastener, and there is an elastic band on the cuffs, belt and hem of the product, whose mission is purely practical - to protect from cold and wind. Hood - still has the function of protection from adverse weather conditions, but now often becomes a prefabricated or removable element, more adapted to the comfortable and aesthetic life of citizens.

Features and Benefits

Perhaps the main feature of this parka jacket is the minimalist and practical design.

Often they are made with a large number of external and internal pockets, which is an indisputable advantage. Sometimes they can accommodate almost all the necessary things: from documents to wallets, wallets and mobile phones, while significantly reducing the volume of the bag, or even leaving it at home as unnecessary. And at the same time, the design of the kutka does not hinder movements and is comfortable to wear.

The practicality of the parka is also achieved due to the detachable lining - thanks to it, it can be used both in winter and in the off-season. Designers suggest using all the details of the parks to the maximum. So, some models of parkas offered in 2016 - 2017 have such fur linings that can be safely worn as a regular fur vest in the warm season.

The parka retains heat well. Modern manufacturers make models with linings from natural and synthetic insulation. If the insulation is natural (for example, wool), the total weight of the parka will be greater than that of a model with artificial insulation.

Artificial heaters, in turn, in addition to their low weight, have an advantage in cost (more budget). The wear resistance and frost resistance of both options, thanks to the use of modern materials and processing technologies, are practically equal.

Popular models and styles

Hooded

Such a traditional parka element as a hood has acquired a number of innovations over time. These include the ability to unfasten this part, if necessary, or, conversely, fasten additional fur to the hood. The hood is extremely popular among fashionistas who are not very fond of hats or face problems in their selection. The hood of the parka will provide a comfortable stay on the street in severe frost, and will also save you from unexpected precipitation in the form of rain or snow.

With detachable lining

The ability to unfasten the lining of parkas is an important factor that you should pay attention to when choosing. A detachable lining is a purely “winter layer”, consisting of natural (for example, goose down) or artificial material with increased frost resistance. In autumn or spring, in warmer weather, this lining can be removed to make the parka lighter and continue to be worn this season. Very convenient and practical.

Puffy

This parka is perfect for any girl. Especially it has gained popularity for those who prefer an active lifestyle. Inflated models of parkas, contrary to common stereotypes, often help to adjust the silhouette, and are extremely comfortable to wear, do not restrict movement.

Models with natural fur

The classic parka features coyote fur trim. This was the first model of the parka N-3B. Fur fashion does not stand still, and the trim can be made from natural fur of other animals.

  • With sable

Having gained popularity among royal and noble persons, sable fur is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful furs on the planet. There are three main varieties of this fur, each with a different color. The most expensive - dark colors, often with a silvery sheen, giving a special external appeal - Barguzinsky sable. Yenisei - has a lighter range of caramel-beige tones. And finally, the North American sable is the lightest. The names of sable fur may be different - in this case, we can talk about sables bred in captivity.

  • with a fox

One of the extravagant fur options. As well as with sable fur, there are several varieties of fox fur - depending on the type of animal - fire fox fur (bright red tones) or polar fox fur (more calm colors - white-gray with graphite spots) can be used. Very often, this fur is trimmed with the inside (“wrong side”) of the hood, so that it becomes possible to wear a parka with a hood turned inside out with this fur inside out - and an interesting effect of a voluminous "hood-collar" is created.

  • With a raccoon

Parka with raccoon fur trim - same luxurious finishlike fox fur. A trim like this, even if it's removable, can add the perfect finishing touch to an evening look.

  • with fox

More familiar models of parkas are made with the use of fox fur trim. This option is of a casual nature, suitable for a conflict-free combination of parkas with such a finish or edge with almost any other clothing.

materials

All the variety of options for finishing the parks will be complemented by a large number of options for the material used. In the manufacture of parkas, leather, down and bologna fabric are used.

  • Leather

Used as top material. A leather-trimmed parka is far from being a simple "casual" option and requires careful wear, regardless of whether it is genuine leather or faux leather. Nevertheless, this is the best option for those who are trying to emphasize their status and style, as well as give their image a bold twist.

  • Downy

Down is the material used for the insulation and (or) lining of the parka, if any. Usually goose, eiderdown, swan or duck down is used. Often for budget parks, a mixture of down and feathers is used.

  • Bologna

Bologna material is used to make the top layer of products, because it has waterproof and water-repellent properties. Parkas made of bologna fabric have a good appearance and have an enviable wear resistance.

Length

The features of the traditional distinctive feature of the parka were the reason for the absence of parkas shorter than mid-thigh.

Manufacturers of parkas use the rule: the longer the parka, the warmer it is for its owner. And, since the parka was created specifically to provide warmth to its owner, the minimum length of the parka can be considered the length along the middle of the thigh, and the maximum - up to the middle of the lower leg.

Trendy colors

  • Gray

Among the shades of gray, Sharkskin is predicted to be the most popular color. It can be combined with both muted shades and bright ones.

  • mustard

According to some authoritative fashion sources, Spicy Mustard will become a popular mustard color for the fall-winter 2016-2017 season.

  • Bolotnaya

The popular shades of the near future will not lose their army of fans, "Khaki" and "Olive" ("Khaki & Olive Green"), and with the onset of spring, the color "Kale" will join them (literally, it can be translated as "Leaf cabbage", simply - swamp green shade, slightly lighter than Khaki).

  • purple

Among the purple gamut in the upcoming autumn-winter season, a pink-purple hue called “Reckless” (“Bodacious”) is widely distributed.

  • orange

To a peculiar version of orange can be considered the shade "Potter's Clay" - the perfect combination of red and orange.

How to choose

When choosing a suitable model of parks, you should pay attention to the following features:

  • Firstly, the quality of fur parts, trims. The best option would be one where the lining comes unfastened - for ease of wearing and machine washing. Pay attention to the length of the fur: the shorter, the less likely it is that the fur will lose its appearance when washed.
  • Secondly, you should pay attention to the strength of the laces of the parka and its other details. Pockets should be large enough (the hand should fit completely inside) and conveniently located.
  • Thirdly, the ratio of down and feather. There should be more down than feathers, the ideal ratio is 90% down and 10% feathers.
  • Fourth, you need to check the quality of the lightning. Ideally, the zipper should reach the chin and, of course, not “stick” and also not roll off in a “wave”.

You can’t do without feathers at all - this component prevents down from rolling down. If a synthetic winterizer serves as a heater in the pack, it’s not bad, because it does not roll or deform, and in terms of heat saving properties it is not inferior to natural materials.

What to wear

The parka goes well with almost any style of jeans - be it skinny or mum-jeans. Very often, a parka becomes the finishing touch to a set consisting of a plaid shirt and leggings.

There are images that combine parks and all kinds of dress options. It is important that the hem of such dresses is not too lush or long. This year there is a tendency to combine a parka made of coarse fabrics and dresses made of delicate, flowing fabrics (for example, chiffon) in one image.

It will be interesting to look at the combination of a combined dress with a knitted part and the presence of a skirt that smoothly marks the line of the silhouette. The length of the skirt of the dress may vary, depending on the taste of the wearer. Organically look with a park knitted voluminous things, skinny trousers made of jeans or velveteen.

What accessories and shoes are suitable

In the case of shoes and accessories, it is important to maintain the unity of style. They must match the style of outerwear.

The parka is good in combination with knitted scarves and a hat made of the same material. The image can be supplemented with mittens or knitted gloves. Stylists highly recommend wearing sneakers, flat boots (berets - army boots) and ankle boots (jodhpurs, chelsea), as well as high boots with a park. Bags can be textile or rough leather. It can be a model over the shoulder or for wearing on the bend of the elbow. The combination of parkas with backpacks is extremely popular - stylish, practical and comfortable, and most importantly, ideal for everyday style.

Brand news

  • Bershka

This season, a new collection "Trend Khaki" is presented, in which the brand's designers very interestingly beat things in this shade. Also popular are samples of previous collections, made in black brown, sand, beige, pomegranate and marine colors. Structural details - everything, as in a classic park, for lovers of light options - there are models without lining.

  • Pull and Bear

Models of the latest collection are somewhat different from the classic parkas. In the proposed models, there is no drawstring at the bottom, and the cut itself has undergone some modifications: the cut has become more fitted, and the hem has become looser. Otherwise, there are models that are interesting in terms of color combinations, made of both artificial and natural fabrics.

  • Vans

This brand pleases us with parks of exceptional classic cut.Models perfectly combine practicality with a sophisticated design that will impress any woman.

  • Roxy

The main features of the parkas from this brand are: interesting design solutions combining fashionable colors - mustard and gray, as well as the use of stitches as a decorative element. Extremely interesting are models made in catchy bright colors, as well as models without pockets.

  • Only

Classic parks. Unfortunately, the brand does not conduct commercial activities through its website in Russia. The brand perfectly combines the classics in its products, complementing them with some small modern design solutions that immediately make the parka particularly stylish and interesting.

What is the price

The listed manufacturers have a very wide range of prices. So, if the cost of a budget parka during the off-season ranges from 2,000 to 4,000 rubles, parks from well-known brands are two, or even three, or four times more expensive - about 5,000-8,000 rubles. Winter models have an even greater difference in price. So if for a budget winter park you will have to pay from about 5,500 rubles to 7,700 rubles, for the park from a well-known brand will have to pay up to 15,000 rubles.

Analysis of manufacturing mills

  • Finland

The production of parkas is carried out mainly from synthetic and mixed materials. For synthetic models, a rather high price is set, comparable to the cost of parkas from a well-known brand made from natural products. However, the wear resistance of products from these manufacturers is much higher than that of others.

  • China

Parks from China are traditionally not distinguished by high cost, however, as well as by their durability. The production of parkas comes mainly from synthetic materials.Light models are supplied to the world market from them, which do not differ in particular frost resistance.

  • Italy

The cost of parkas from this manufacturing country is several tens of times higher than the average. The advantages of the products include full compliance with the technologies and traditions of the production of parkas, the predominant use of natural fabrics, as well as the use of the latest well-known innovative technologies to achieve the result.

Reviews

The popularity of parkas speaks for itself - these products are extremely relevant among women, men and children.

Happy owners of parkas note the great convenience of this jacket in terms of its everyday wear. Unlike other outerwear, this one is extremely practical and does not require a reverent and careful attitude. Women are extremely fond of models with edging made of natural lush furs - such models look elegant and are suitable for going to the office or a business trip.

Many people pay attention to the long models of winter parks, which are quickly thrown over the shoulders in a hurry, and are also easy to use in terms of hiking and regular car trips. The main disadvantage of parkas is their earthiness in the variety of stylish images that you can create with them. Most parks have a sporty or casual style that is not so easy to "turn" into a romantic or businesslike one.

Stylish images

  • Pair a beige parka with a white knit sweater for a casual look. In this case, light blue cropped jeans will be extremely effectively combined with ankle boots with a steady heel, visually stretching the silhouette. This look is perfect for school or meeting up with friends.

  • A feminine look can be created with a dark dress made of flowing fabric with an interesting bright pattern. A parka in an unusual greenish-brown color will fit perfectly into this style. In this case, romantic and semi-sporty style are successfully combined, creating together an extremely memorable and bold image.
