Jacket-park "Alaska"

Few pieces of outerwear can boast cult status, but the Alaska winter parka is just that. Despite the 70-year history of existence, this jacket is still in demand and practically does not leave the fashion scene. This is due, first of all, to its unique thermal properties, which allow the body to warm up even in the most severe cold. Such a jacket can be safely used as a down jacket, standing out against the general background of the gray mass. But why is this jacket called the name of the largest state in America and what are its main features?

A bit of history

The first Alaska jackets appeared in the 50s of the last century and became a real salvation for American military pilots. The fact is that in those days they were forced to work in extreme weather conditions, in latitudes where the air temperature drops to a critically low level. The designers tasked with making radically warm clothing for the military turned their attention to the clothing of the Eskimos from Alaska.

In order to adapt to vigorous activity in the northern latitudes, they were forced to wear jackets that are unique in their properties. They did not constrain movements at all due to the anatomical cut, but at the same time they perfectly warmed in the cold. To give clothes warming properties, the Eskimos soaked the main raw material for tailoring, deer skins, with fish oil.Cold wind and temperatures down to -70 C were not terrible, because the jackets were complemented by a high collar covering the face and a deep hood.

Features and Benefits

Modern designers borrowed the sewing technology from the Eskimos, but still improved the small elements. Heavy leather has been replaced with the latest thermal insulation materials, and heavy-duty zippers have been sewn in as fasteners. Jackets - Alaska are good because they do not have unnecessary elements: Sewn-on pockets are present on the chest and at the bottom of the jacket, and all flaps are fully insulated. On the left shoulder there is even a small pocket in which you can put a pen, and the sleeves are sewn like a raglan so as not to hinder movements. Additional details of the sleeves are cuffs and adjustable straps at the waist, as well as an additional layer of fabric around the elbows on the sleeves.

It is curious that until the 70s of the last century, jackets began to be insulated with wool filler, which gave additional volume and weight to the jacket. A little later, the previous filler was replaced with polyester wadding, which had a much lower weight. In modern models of parkas, only modern materials are used as insulation, which practically do not add additional volume to the jackets.

Fashion trends

The hallmark of the Alaska jacket, which has been especially valuable at all times, is the lining, or rather its bright shade. In the last century, such a detail played a far from decorative value. So, in the event of an ejection, the pilot could put on the jacket with the side turned out and it was easier for the rescuers to find him. In modern times, the bright lining has become a trademark, a fashionable highlight of the jacket for all time.

How to choose

Not many people know that the Alaska jacket was designed by Alpha Industries, and this company uses exclusively laconic colors for tailoring jackets - black, green, blue and maroon. But the lining is sewn in only one color - orange, since it is he who is best seen in the snowy abyss.

But it is not always possible to distinguish the original Alaska model from a fake only by shade. If you want to choose a really real jacket model, you should take into account several important features:

  1. The original parkas have a branded zip on the sleeve pocket.
  2. The buttons on the outer side of the jacket and the fasteners that secure the trim to the hood have a shiny texture and rounded edges.
  3. Bullet-shaped caps are additionally attached to the pen pockets.

Tokens and stickers with a special QR code must be attached to the branded packaging of the jacket. On the tokens must be information about the name of the model, its cat and size abbreviation.

It is interesting that initially the Alaska jacket was intended exclusively for slender young men with harmonious proportions of the silhouette, but today you can even find large-sized models and they have an amazing slimming effect.

What to wear

Today, the Alaska jacket can be combined with any everyday elements of the wardrobe. It can be classic jeans or any tight-fitting trousers. To create a sporty look, you can complement this jacket with ski pants - it will be very impressive.

Shoes that are ideal for "Alaska" are boots, as well as stylish soldier's boots or sports shoes in the form of sneakers or sneakers. A scarf will complete any look.It is better if it is knitted and tied with a collar like a snood. A hat is better to choose a sports one.

Stylish images

But the right accessories will help give elegance and chic to the image. The best bag for a parka is a backpack, as it is in harmony with the overall style of the outfit. It is important to observe the harmony of color combinations. Green jackets are best complemented with beige, sand, brown and gray clothes, dark blue with blue, black and yellow, and maroon with brown and gray.

You will look very harmonious in such a jacket if you complement the image with a travel bag or any other shapeless cut. But in general terms, we can say that when combining a jacket with other elements of the wardrobe, it is worth considering the volume of its cut.
