Umbrella tents for winter fishing: features and rating of manufacturers

For anglers who are especially interested in ice fishing, cube and umbrella tents are suitable. If with the “cube” option it is possible to accommodate up to three fishermen working on ice at the same time, then with an umbrella-type tent it is much more difficult - primarily due to the presence of a domed rather than a flat and relatively flat ceiling. However, the "umbrella" will protect the fisherman from bad weather no worse than the "cube".

Variants of the umbrella type differ from other types in that, like a real umbrella, the supporting structure and the awning are connected so that special knitting needles are involved in opening and folding the tent. The umbrella unfolds faster than other types of tent structures due to the straightening of the folding spokes and pulling down the special handle. After that, the product is ready for fixing at the parking lot.

The frame is strong enough to withstand even strong winds: it is mainly made of durapol (fiberglass with reinforcing steel wire) or aluminum alloy (for example, duralumin).

An umbrella-type tent has a single entrance, but ventilation and heat saving are clearly thought out.Some models provide for the installation of an internal awning on special clamps, with which this compartment is attached to the carrier spokes. Its spaciousness is sufficient to place a camping stove in it. Most models are devoid of their own floor, this allows for ice fishing without leaving the shelter.

A detachable floor with windows can be provided in which a hole can be made on an uncovered area of ​​ice, fencing off the cold from the side of the ice itself.

The weight of the tent-umbrella ranges from 4-5 kg. The lighter it is, the more convenient it will be for you to carry or transport it, getting to the place of winter fishing, for example, on skis. Ideally, the tent should not require a car or motorcycle. In the case of summer fishing on the banks of the river or on bike trips, the “umbrella” is transported on the trunk of a bicycle.

The height of the unfolded product is 1.6 ... 2 m. The usable area of ​​your mobile premises is at least 4 sq. m. Each of the fishermen who went to the place of fishing in the team will require approximately 1.5 square meters. m. area.

Ventilation should be sufficient to ensure timely removal of water vapor and carbon dioxide. The former, both exhaled by the fishermen themselves and emitted by a gas burner, form a layer of condensate on the inside of the outer tent. The second, if the tent has insufficient ventilation, accumulates inside. Without noticing this in time, the fishermen will only understand what is happening, by their sharply worsened state of health.

There were cases when, during an overnight stay after daytime fishing, a single fisherman, forgetting or not wanting to put out the stove, burning candles or a gas burner and at the same time not leaving the windows and the door of the tent ajar, died to a semi-conscious state, and in the worst case, died, suffocated from complete lack of oxygen.

The zippers on the front door are protected by windproof strips, which, if necessary, can be easily pulled back. They do not allow slanting rain or snow to penetrate inside the shelter. The awning must be windproof, waterproof (for summer-autumn fishing sessions on the shore of a lake, river or sea). In cold weather, a wind and snow skirt is protected from the downwind, tucked in from below with thick branches, stones or packed snow.

The multi-layered umbrella tent is one of the main requirements. The second layer is made mainly of air-permeable and water-removing material, which allows condensate not to drain in the form of “room” rain.
