Clothes, shoes or accessories made of nubuck look very attractive and respectable. However, many deny themselves the right to have such beauty only because they do not know how to properly care for these products.

Having become acquainted with the basic principles of cleaning nubuck things, any person can easily preserve their original appearance.

Peculiarities

In order to understand how to properly clean a thing from a particular material, you need to learn about all its characteristics and distinctive features. Nubuck is a natural material made from the skin of cattle and processed by chrome tanning.

The front side of the matter is processed with small particles of sand or a special skin, due to which a small pile is formed on it.

Nubuck is often confused with suede, however it has a shorter pile and is not subject to stretching during wear. Both of these materials perfectly pass air, but do not tolerate moisture at all. Therefore, before any care procedures, you must first remove obvious traces of dirt, and then be sure to dry your shoes or other thing from nubuck well.

It is necessary to dry the products at room temperature, without using thermal appliances. In no case should you wash nubuck items in a washing machine and use wet cleaning methods. If this condition is not observed, you can greatly spoil the appearance of the nubuck thing, which will render it unusable.

In addition to natural matter, synthetic nubuck is also used in the production of clothing and accessories. Made of artificial leather, such material is less exposed to moisture, at the same time, it is deprived of the ability to pass air.

Products made of artificial material can be washed in a washing machine, but only at a temperature not exceeding 40 ° C and with the gentle spin function. To restore the appearance of a thing after washing, you should hold it over steam. Then the pile will straighten out from exposure to steam, and it will be possible to comb it with a brush.

The most wear-resistant of all varieties is nubuck with additional moisture treatment, which gives the material a wet effect. Due to these features, the material was nicknamed "nubuck-oil" or "oiled nubuck".

How to wash a nubuck thing at home?

To care for this finicky matter, you should acquire special tools and products that will help you quickly and efficiently remove any dirt.

A double-sided brush with metal bristles on one side and a rubber nozzle on the other will be an indispensable tool in the fight against fresh traces of dirt. The bristles are used to clean the material itself, and it is better to walk along the seams with the rubber side or end, which can better remove dust and not damage the material.

To make cleaning nubuck shoes more effective, you can first hold them over a pot of boiling water. Due to the steam, the material will soften, the villi will rise, and the dirt will be removed better.

In order to remove a stain, a light stain from snow, or to make a more thorough cleaning of nubuck shoes, use special shampoos or cleaners in the form of foam. For proper care, these products are used 2-3 times a year. With these tools, you can also easily clean a nubuck bag or jacket.

To do this, you need to take a piece of flannel material, apply the product on it and treat the problem area. After waiting a few minutes, remove the remnants of the product with an absorbent cloth. After that, the product must be dried and combed with a special brush.

To update the color of the matter, you should have a nubuck spray on hand. This tool should be used as needed. The aerosol also helps to successfully mask old contaminants that have not been removed in time and are unlikely to be removed without the help of dry cleaning.

Moisture-proof impregnation protects nubuck items from getting wet. This is especially true for shoes. Impregnation is applied to only the purchased item, then again after the first layer has dried.

It is necessary to apply a moisture-protecting composition after each shoe cleaning session.

Other ways to care

A greasy stain on a nubuck surface can be removed with talcum powder. This tool is able to absorb grease, and is also easily removed with a brush from the surface of the material.

In the fight against pollution, you can also use a solution of ammonia in a ratio of 1: 4 or dilute a tablespoon of vinegar per liter of water. Soak a cotton pad in the solution and wipe the place of contamination with it. Drying after the procedure is required.

On clothes and accessories made of nubuck, the places of contamination are usually the same. On the bag, signs of use may appear in the area where it comes into contact with clothing.

On a jacket, especially in a light shade, dark spots around the cuffs and pockets can be a real problem. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly carry out preventive measures and not allow dirt to eat into the matter.

Greasy areas can be cleaned with semolina, rubbing it in and regularly changing to a new portion. If you need to clean the inside of the shoes and rid them of an unpleasant smell, you can use peroxide. It should be carefully sprayed over the entire inner surface of the boot. From exposure to peroxide, all bacteria - sources of an unpleasant odor - will die, then the shoes should be wiped with a damp cloth and left to dry.
