Yakut national costume

In the traditional costume of the Yakuts, there are elements borrowed from other nationalities. The special cut makes it perfectly adapted to the harsh climatic conditions of the north.

Yakut clothing, like the costumes of any nation, has changed over time. So, initially it was made of suede, trimmed with fur trim, female - decorated with beaded embroidery. Metal ornaments were used.

• A typical example of the influence of the peoples of Siberia on the clothes of the Yakuts is the female haladaai. Women of the Oryol and Kursk provinces wore a similar thing called a holodayka. Even the consonance in the name has been preserved.

• The peoples of East Asia borrowed a robe-like cut of clothing with one-piece sleeves. Such costumes were worn by women in the summer.

It is believed that in the 18th century the Yakut costume was finally formed.

The Yakut national costume has a number of features:

• natural materials. Leather, suede, fur were used for tailoring. In this case, the fur mainly played the role of a heater. Sewn on the edges of the sleeves, it prevented the penetration of cold.
• Croy. The Yakut outfit has a straight cut. This need is again caused by the cold climate of the latitudes.
• Decorations. Yakut women have long been famous for their skill in embroidering clothes with beads. This art is passed down from mother to daughter. In addition to beads, pendants were used that emitted a light ringing that drove away evil spirits.

The cut of Yakut clothes was the same for both women and men. Finishing, decor served as differences.

• outerwear (cut onolooh) was made of fur or suede. For its decoration, decorative silk inserts or a fur mosaic of contrasting pieces were used.

Women's fur coat is called sanyyakh. She was sewn from the skins of a wolf, wolverine, fox, sable. She was always present in the wedding dress of the bride and had fur inserts in the form of wings on her back.

The traditional costume of the bride is very interesting.Its components are: a cash coverlet (anna), a rovduk shirt, leather pantaloons (braces), leggings (knee pads), and a fur coat. The headdress resembles a warrior's helmet.

Jewelry was an integral part of women's clothing. In this way, respect for the woman mother was emphasized, since the Yakuts understood that the size of the nationality, childbearing is impossible without a woman. In addition, jewelry served as a kind of amulet.

The male Yakut costume is more modest in comparison with the female one. The casual wear is trimmed with fur on the sleeves and collar. Moreover, this rim can be quite massive and voluminous.

A headdress made of natural fur with ties, like a helmet, covered the ears from frost and wind. Tellingly, the shape of the hats of the Yakuts is almost the same for both women and men and resembles a stove. Often there are decorative ears that personify the cosmic connection with the universe. Sometimes the end of the cap has a hole for the moon and the sun so that they can leave their seed and continue the race.

Children's clothes are not much different from adults. For its manufacture, skins and furs, decorative strips embroidered with beads were also used. The cap was trimmed with fur.

For the manufacture of a modern costume, a wide variety of materials are used: light chiffon, suede, silk, satin, brocade, organza. The outfit is richly decorated with natural fur, embroidered with beads, rhinestones, decorated with metal ornaments.

Modern technologies make it possible to turn the Yakut costume into a real work of art, which is a synthesis of traditions and innovations. These outfits look fabulous.They are characterized by bright colors and patterns, unusual styles. However, according to fashion designers, these costumes do not carry historical accuracy. The heroes of Yakut myths and legends serve as a source of inspiration for designers.

At present, the national clothes of the Yakuts are put on for traditional holidays or successfully combined with modern ones. Furs and beads still do not lose their relevance.
