Clothing is bright, and even today ancient motifs are used in the creation of modern models.

A bit of history

It is known that the Ukrainian people have a rich and colorful history, in which there were both joyful and disturbing events. The culture of this country was formed for a long period, and gave the world not only famous authors, artists and composers, but also such an element as the national costume.

It should be noted that the traditional Ukrainian outfit is multifaceted and complex. The embroideries and decorative elements used in the design demonstrate the strong and rich spirit of the country and its people. When looking at the outfits, you can see that the design uses bright palettes. Such details were formed under the influence of various cultures and events. Each color is a symbol of a certain feeling or moment.

For each region of Ukraine, various costumes were invented, which may differ from each other not only in cut, but also in decorative inserts. Through this, the population tries to show ethnic nuances, differences and idiosyncrasies.

Peculiarities

The national Ukrainian outfit can be safely attributed to one of the types of creativity. Even today, many designers are trying to use new traditional patterns and motifs in the design.

The features of national Ukrainian costumes include:

  • simplicity of forms;
  • richness and variety of decor;
  • rich color;
  • slim silhouette.

With the help of simple and concise elements, folk craftsmen tried to complement such a practical outfit with unforgettable beauty. For a long time, many people worked on the creation of a national costume that could convey the spirit of the Ukrainian people.

A feature of the outfits is that it combines the notes of Russian and Belarusian culture. In tailoring costumes, not only similar materials were used, but also decorative details.

Particular attention should be paid to Ukrainian winter costumes, which are complemented by practical and elegant outerwear. These can be models with a straight back, a wedge-shaped cut, options with a detachable waist.

Colors and shades

Each color used in the design of the Ukrainian costume is a certain symbol. Black has always denoted the land-nurse, which has a special meaning in the culture of this people.

Red is a symbol of joy, love and passion. It prevails in the design of Ukrainian outfits.

White is used to create hems. This color has always denoted holiness and purity.In Ukrainian culture, white was of particular value, since light silver was used even to create wedding rings.

Quite often, blue is used in the design of outfits. It is known that such a shade is a symbol of freedom and purification. Blue always reminds of peace of mind.

Green represents spring. The hue is characterized with youthfulness, freshness and plants that ripen under the warm rays of the sun.

Particular attention should be paid to the yellow color. It is a symbol of the stars and the month, but often Ukrainians characterize this shade with separation.

fabrics

Basically, natural materials have always been used to create the Ukrainian national costume. Flax was preferred, as it is light, and various patterns can be created on it. Cotton and wool were not inferior to their positions, which provided comfort and practicality. Batiste is another popular option. It is worth noting that all these materials are used today.

Cut and decorative seams

Each region has its own individual cut. Basically, women's outfits are presented in straight, laconic silhouettes. Shirts have always been divided into three types: with inserts, yoke and tunic (the most common option). The poneva acted as a constituent element of the female attire - clothing covering the back of the body, and it was fixed at the waist. One of the varieties of this model is a plakhta - an outfit decorated with a large cage.

A variety of embroideries were used to create decorative elements. Basically, it was used for edging the collar. Embroidery has always been created by hand, which is its main value.

Accessories and decorations

Headdresses were the main addition to the men's costume. They are presented in various forms. These can be cylinders or cones. No less common option are semicircular hats. As for the girls, they liked to complement their outfit with wreaths of natural or artificial flowers.

Varieties

Outfits for men and women differ not only in color, but also in the use of decorative elements. Particular attention should be paid to children's costumes, which are characterized by bright and rich palettes.

Female

The women's costume was based on a shirt called a koshuly. It is somewhat longer than the male versions, and consists of two parts. For the holidays, women put on a special shirt called “dodilnya”, which was decorated with hand embroidery. Bright and elegant sashes acted as a belt. The lower part could be made up of a derg (working version), a reserve or a plash.

Vyshyvanka occupied a special place in the women's costume.

Children's

As for children's clothing, it was a reduced copy of adult options. There were no gender differences in the costumes. Both boys and girls wore long shirts. After reaching the appropriate age, children were allowed to wear full-fledged Ukrainian outfits.

Male

Clothing for men has always been distinguished by convenience and practicality, and allowed them to freely perform any daily work. The basis of the costume was a simple shirt, for the manufacture of which a homespun cloth was used. The features of the clothes included a turn-down collar. The shirt was worn under harem pants (trousers) fastened with spectacles.

It should be noted that in Western Ukraine the costume was somewhat different from the traditional version.Instead of bloomers, men wore skinny trousers, reminiscent of "pipes" (modern clothes). A sash-belt was used to tie the shirt and bottom. The wife or bride has always been involved in the design of this element.

Suit in modern style

Today, stylized costumes are especially popular. Such outfits are presented in the Ukrainian style, but are based on modern elements of clothing. Quite often, the traditional embroidered shirt is complemented with a corset and a cropped skirt. In the design, all the same embroideries are used. A wreath is used as an accessory.

Ukrainian national costumes are an essential attribute of folk dance. In the creation of models, comfort and convenience are taken into account, therefore, light and soft fabrics are used for tailoring. The skirts are of medium length so that the girl can move freely during the dance.
