Ossetian national costume
The Ossetian costume is justifiably considered one of the brightest and most original national costumes.
National clothes are one of the elements of the culture of each nation, which reflects its history and development.
Currently, Ossetians wear national clothes only on special occasions, on big celebrations and festivities. In the villages, this custom is more common and revered. However, urban residents also honor the memory of their ancestors, not forgetting the traditions and culture of their people, one of the elements of which is the national, traditional Ossetian costume.
A bit of history
Since ancient times, it has become customary that the traditional Ossetian costume should be made exclusively by female hands, moreover, at home. The homespun cloth of a woman was originally dyed in the desired colors and shades. This was done with the help of paints of exclusively vegetable origin. Only after the fabric was prepared, it was possible to start sewing national attire.
It should be mentioned that in the national clothes of the Ossetians one can see the motifs of the Alanian and ancient Scythian-Sarmatian cultures. From this we can conclude that these outfits have a very ancient origin, which gradually absorbed more and more new trends.

Colors and patterns
It should be noted that in the Ossetian clothing culture, such classic colors as white, black and red are most often used. Less common are blue, green and all their shades. Festive attire is richly decorated with gold or silver threads, which can serve as evidence of belonging to a particular status.
Each pattern symbolizes something. So, on the wedding attire, symbols are embroidered by hand, which personifies fertility. On the usual costume of a woman, ornaments are depicted that denote humility, obedience, but at the same time self-sufficiency. Symbols of strength, power, courage can be depicted on men's suits.

- The traditional men's costume includes natural underwear, a Circassian coat, a hat, a cloak, a fur coat and a hood. - The female national image of the Ossetian is created by a shirt, a special corset, a Circassian dress with long sleeves and a kind of headdress. Ossetians use shoes that are light and comfortable, like sports shoes. Most often, it is sewn from genuine leather and has a soft sole.
