The study of the peculiarities of the national clothes of different peoples gives us the opportunity to get closer to their culture, customs and traditions.

National clothes differ from the usual ones in that there is nothing accidental or spontaneous in them. Each element is thought out and formed over the years, even centuries, while maximally reflecting the way of life of the population, climatic conditions, the internal situation of the state, the worldview of the population itself, etc.

The national Bulgarian costume deserves special attention. Colorful and bright, it immediately attracts attention, surprising and delighting the eye with its richness and originality.

A bit of history

The history of the Bulgarian national costume covers many centuries. It was influenced by the cultures of other countries, certain domestic events, territorial factors, and so on.

In the distant past, the people in Bulgaria made fabric for national clothes on their own, and the attitude towards this was all reverent and respectful. For example, only women could weave and sew on certain days. With their work, they proved to the whole world that they are the most skilled needlewomen.

The ancestor of modern Bulgarian women's clothing was a kind of woolen sundress (sukman), which had a rather deep neckline.Initially, in all regions, it had common features: a trapezoidal shape, type of fabric, etc.

From the very beginning, the Bulgarian costume was distinguished by its rich decoration: symbolic embroidery, jewelry, laces were an integral part of it.

Peculiarities

In the modern Bulgarian national costume, women's headdress immediately attracts attention. It looks very impressive and bright, somewhat reminiscent of a Russian kokoshnik. For solemn events, the headdress is richly decorated with colorful paintings, coins and beads.

A characteristic feature of the Bulgarian costume can also be called the sound that is emitted from it when walking. This chime, pleasant to the ear, is created by numerous decorations, which in large quantities serve as an adornment of the outfit. Necklaces, earrings, necklaces and festive headwear are decorated with semi-precious stones and special metal plates that create this pleasant sound when moving.

Outfit Description

The main part of the women's national dress in Bulgaria is a sundress. Conventionally, this clothing can be divided into 2 subspecies:

  • sukman, which is a product with or without sleeves, decorated with braid and various embroideries. A feature of the sukman is an elegant, painted apron;
  • saya. This is a shirt with sleeves of different styles and a skirt. A feature of the say is the originally embroidered cuffs and collar.

Men's national attire can also be divided into 2 groups:

  • black-dreadful. These are clothes that are made in dark and muted colors;
  • white-haired. Such clothes are bright, positive and joyful.

Men's clothing includes:

  • trousers trimmed with braid;
  • belt decorated with exquisite embroidery;
  • a shirt, the collar and cuffs of which are also decorated in original ways;
  • bright colored vest.

National clothes for children in Bulgaria are distinguished by their brightness and colorfulness. This is especially true for girls. Colorful, lush wreaths, decorated with coins and stones, eye-catching and enchanting with their beauty embroidery on clothes do not leave anyone indifferent.

Peculiar leather sandals - tsarvuli are considered to be the national footwear in Bulgaria. Their appearance resembles moccasins, so they are very comfortable.

Modern models

Bulgarians are very sensitive to their national clothes, trying to make it even more unique and original, inimitable.

A red sundress with a length just below the knee looks very stylish in combination with a black apron embroidered with bright patterns. A snow-white blouse embroidered with symbolic ornaments fits perfectly into the overall image. A ribbon decorated with flowers tied around the head completes the overall picture.

To create a colorful masculine look, you can use loose-fitting pants in beige. A shirt with embroidered cuffs and collar in combination with a beige vest and a wide, decorated belt will make the look complete and stylish.

The Bulgarian people are one of the few who greatly honor and respect the memory of their ancestors. National clothes are something that the Bulgarians carefully protect and enrich with new elements, without losing its main meaning, laid down by their ancestors.
