Advantages and disadvantages

In everyday life, there is often a need for an air mattress as a temporary sleeping place: when repairing, moving, visiting guests. But it can not only create the conditions for a comfortable sleep at home, it can be successfully used in the country, and on trips, and camping. Very quickly, in a matter of minutes, it turns from a compact package into a real bed.

Compared to conventional mattresses, its advantages are quite obvious:

  • fully meets the requirements of hygiene: it is not covered with dust, which means it excludes the possibility of dust mites, it does not get wet and at the same time is easy to clean;
  • not subject to deformation - even after long-term operation, the springs do not stick out and dents do not appear;
  • has compact dimensions - if necessary, after use it can be blown away, when folded it takes up little space;
  • has thermal insulation properties - a layer of air allows you to put it on bare ground and protects from the cold;
  • easy to use - quickly creates a comfortable sleeping place, it can be used as a temporary and permanent place to sleep;
  • provides comfort during sleep - the spine is in the correct position, and the spinal muscles are in a relaxed state;
  • complete safety is guaranteed by the presence of several air chambers, which does not allow the mattress to completely deflate if one of them is damaged;
  • at will, you can change the rigidity and the degree of its density;
  • transportable - when folded, it can be easily transported in a regular car;
  • can be repaired if necessary;
  • has a very affordable price.

In addition to the advantages, there are also disadvantages:

  • has a relatively short operational period (from 3 to 6 years);
  • pets or any sharp objects can damage it with their claws;
  • unable to withstand high loads;
  • may creak and exude an unpleasant rubber smell;
  • Poor quality mattresses do not have sufficient strength - the connecting seams often crack, which contributes to the release of air.

They also pose some injury risk for young children.

Varieties

Intex air mattresses are represented by a wide variety of types. According to their purpose, the following are distinguished.

Mattresses for sleeping

This can also include an inflatable sleeping bed. Such models have walls with a high degree of strength, several isolated air chambers and a pile fabric cover. Sleeping models include the following varieties:

  • single mattress;
  • one and a half;
  • double.

The most popular are single and double models. Differing in their size, they have common design characteristics. The internal frame in them can be of 3 types.

  • The classic and simplest frame with longitudinal stiffeners. Models with such a frame are widespread, they can be used both for a short time and for a long time.
  • Frame with transverse stiffeners, which is more stable and durable. Can be used for a long time.
  • A frame having a cellular structure formed from cylindrical disks located throughout the space of the mattress.

The material for the manufacture of 1 and 2-bed models is often vinyl with various additives. It is characterized by durability and a high degree of strength. These mattresses can be inflated with a simple manual pump. They can also be equipped with a built-in pump powered by electricity. The existing valve does not release air even when the lid is open. There are also models with remote controlled inflation.

Single mattresses are convenient to use in small apartments. Their dimensions can be 76x191 and 99x191 with a height of 22–23 cm. The sizes of double mattresses can be of the Russian standard - 137x191x23 and the European standard - 152x203x22. Sometimes there is a double mattress with dimensions of 200x200, which has a higher level of comfort. The height is not affected by the size of the mattresses: it can be from the smallest at 13 cm to the largest at 56 cm. But the height of 13, 22 and 56 cm is considered the standard.

Air beds have a slightly higher height and provide a more comfortable stay.

Inflatable travel mattresses

These models for tourists, having common properties with sleeping views, are distinguished by even more compact dimensions, a small height of up to 10 cm and the presence of an attachable pillow. Such a mattress can be used by a tourist both in a tent and with a sleeping bag. When packed, it requires very little space and is easy to transport.

car mattress

Models for cars are an innovation and have appeared recently. However, they are already popular with motorists.

Their dimensions coincide with the dimensions of the rear car seats. Additional stability is provided by the presence of special supports that are installed in the gap between the front and rear seats. The set also includes 2 inflatable pillows.

beach models

They are designed for a comfortable stay near water bodies. They can swim on the water or sunbathe on the beach. This type of mattress has its own varieties:

  • an ordinary rectangular swimming mattress;
  • rectangular models consisting of several chambers;
  • mattresses-transformers;
  • beach models in the form of a deck chair with armrests and coasters.

Swimming models can be made of transparent and opaque material. Opaque ones slowly bask in the sun, and on transparent ones, swimming, you can admire the aquatic inhabitants and landscapes. Mattresses intended only for swimming are made of PVC with hypoallergenic properties.

Orthopedic mattress

Such models have their own design differences, which consist in the presence of special frames and additional partitions in the inner part of the mattress. Orthopedic properties directly depend on the number of these partitions.

Mattresses of different types differ in their size. Models for swimming compared to other products have smaller dimensions - 183x69 cm. The size of an air mattress-chaise lounge with a mesh surface is 178x94 cm.

Popular Models

The range of air mattresses from Intex includes a wide variety of models of all kinds. Among this set, such popular models can be distinguished.

Intex Classic Downy Bed

This is a classic version of a double air mattress.It provides a comfortable sleep due to its good rigidity and density, which are provided by longitudinal partitions, as well as a soft fleecy coating that does not allow bed linen to slip. The bottom base is very strong. A special 2-in-1 valve allows you to quickly inflate and deflate the mattress. The model has a fairly long service life and a relatively small weight - 3 kg.

Among the shortcomings, there is a lack of a pump in the supplied kit and insufficient thermal insulation, which does not allow it to be placed on bare ground and used for sleeping in nature.

Classic Downy Bed Full

The Classic Downy Bed Full double model with a maximum load of 175 kg is made of waterproof vinyl. The mattress has a fleecy flock coating, so the bed linen does not slip on the surface. Provides comfortable rest, as it evenly distributes the weight of the lying person.

When assembled, it has a compact size, which allows you to take it with you to the country or on a camping trip. This versatile mattress can be used at home when an extra bed is needed, as well as on the beach, and fishing, and on a picnic. It can also be used for swimming.

Intex Kidz Travel Bed Set

This single model is designed for children aged 3 years and older. The mattress is able to withstand a load of up to 65 kg. A special border around its perimeter eliminates the risk of the child falling to the floor. The coating material has waterproof properties, so dust, dirt and other contaminants can be easily washed off even with soap and water. Linen on a rough but soft fleecy surface does not slip or wrinkle.

The internal construction has a strong rigid base that maintains a flat, non-sagging surface.The model can be used not only in the apartment, but also in the country, and on hikes. It is inflated quickly enough with a hand pump, which is attached to the kit. Weight - 4 kg.

Mattress Deluxe Single-High

A model from the Dura-Beam line, which is characterized by the presence of some orthopedic properties. However, they do not replace orthopedic mattresses. The inner frame contains baffles, consisting of a large number of woven polyester fibers, which are well breathable, do not deform or stretch. Even if individual fibers are damaged, the mattress retains its shape, density and hardness. Thanks to these partitions, the weight of the product is greatly reduced.

The flock coating prevents the laundry from slipping. Maintenance consists of simple washing with traditional detergents. Inflating is carried out with a simple pump, however, it must be purchased separately, since it is not included in the kit. The mattress is designed for use at home, in the country, you can take it to the beach. In addition to these models, the following can also be noted: Intex Convertible Lounge - a mattress with a back and armrests, Intex Comfort-Plush - with an electric pump, Supreme Air-Flow Bed - one of the highest models (height 51 cm) and others.

Subtleties of operation

The main condition for proper operation is the ability to properly inflate and deflate the mattress. You can inflate the mattress with a pump. They are manual, foot and electric. When using any pump, you must first connect the pump tubes and the mattress valve. Inflate the air with smooth and rhythmic movements, while checking the degree of elasticity and density of the mattress and avoiding excessive swelling.

The less weight the product experiences, the greater the degree of inflation. The optimal filling is 1/3 of the total volume of the mattress. When heavily loaded, it is recommended to fill it with air by 85%. After straightening all the folds and achieving sufficient rigidity, you can stop pumping air. After the mattress has been inflated, the air valve seal should be checked. It must be lubricated with soapy foam: if the valve does not fit snugly, bubbles will appear.

Then they check the reliability of the mattress: they let it stand inflated for about 12 hours. The allowable air leakage during this period should be no more than 10%.

It is also important to properly deflate the mattress. This process goes quickly if you follow this sequence:

  • first you need to open the valves, which will ensure an independent exit of air under the influence of its mass;
  • then you should carefully fold the product and move the remaining air into the area of \u200b\u200bthe valves;
  • after the final release of air, the mattress must be packed in a special bag or storage case.

When the air is released, it is forbidden to accelerate its release by impact on the surface of the product, as this may cause damage. Another way to deflate a mattress is to use a pump. This method is much easier and easier to perform.

  • At first, the air comes out on its own after opening the valves.
  • Then you need to connect the pump to the valve. If there are several valves, the rest must be carefully closed.
  • The air is expelled by the pump thrust.
  • At the end of the deflation, the pump should be turned off and the mattress packed.

There are models with a built-in pump. It is powered by electricity and deflates smoothly and quickly. But before descending, it is necessary to close the valve for pumping air with a lid.

Overview of reviews

An analysis of reviews about Intex mattresses shows that with the majority of positive reviews, there are also negative reviews. Many users note that air mattresses are quite soft, their fleecy surface is pleasant to the body, so it is very comfortable to sleep on them. Most consumers have no complaints about the quality of products. Many consider the ability to repair a mattress if it breaks, especially if it comes with a repair kit, to be a positive thing.

The durability of products is also indicated: it is noted that even with frequent use, the service life is more than 3 years. The price of mattresses also matters. As users emphasize, at low cost (within 1-3 thousand rubles), you can provide a real bed.

Negative reviews are primarily associated with such points:

  • decrease in pressure in the chambers, which requires periodic air pumping;
  • the pump is often not included in the package and must be purchased separately;
  • models with a built-in pump during inflation require periodic breaks (10-15 minutes) every 5 minutes;
  • insufficient quality of products: even with short-term use, cracks form in the seams and it is necessary to constantly seal them;
  • discrepancy between quality and price: often more expensive models are almost indistinguishable from cheaper ones.

It should also be pointed out that certain defects may occur due to improper use of mattresses. Therefore, you should strictly follow the recommendations of the instructions.

Still, air mattresses are recommended to be used as a temporary bed. They are convenient because you can take them everywhere with you. However, for permanent use it is better to purchase cabinet furniture.
