Essential oils have been known to mankind for a very long time. They were the first cosmetics used in skin care. Thanks to a whole range of beneficial properties, these fragrant substances have become overgrown with legends and myths about their magical effect on youth, beauty and sexual attractiveness.

And the first myth is already in the name itself - "essential oils", although they do not have the properties of ordinary base oils. These are organic oil-like substances that evaporate easily at room temperature without leaving a trace. There are no fats in their chemical composition.

How to receive

The source of essential oils is only vegetable raw materials. Aromatic substances are present in leaves, flower petals, buds, fruit peel. There are many ways to extract the essential extract: dynamic adsorption (using activated carbon), extraction (using organic solvents), extraction (extraction with carbon dioxide), hydrodiffusion (the most modern method that does not require expensive equipment). For each type of plant, a specific method is used to isolate the largest amount of a high-quality product.

There is an opinion that a product made from vegetable raw materials cannot be expensive. This is not entirely true.It is true for some types of esters, such as citrus, which are obtained by an economical pressing process.

The distillation method is also inexpensive. Distillation involves heating raw materials with steam or water. High temperatures destroy plant cells. Volatile substances are released and with steam enter the cooling apparatus, where they turn into a mixture of oil and water. Due to the ability of the essential oil to not dissolve in water, it is quite easy to isolate.

The most complex and, accordingly, expensive method is enfleurage: flower petals (roses, mignonettes, jasmine) are laid out on a base soaked in animal fat. Fat absorbs the aroma as much as possible. And from the resulting aromatic fat mass with the help of alcohol, the essential oil is extracted.

Thus, due to different production methods, the price of the final product can vary from several hundred rubles to several thousand for a small bottle of fragrant liquid.

Application Tips

Esters are absolutely safe, because they are 100% natural substances. Therefore, the dosage is not of fundamental importance, and "you can't spoil the porridge with oil." However, essential oils can not only spoil, but also harm.

Each essential oil is an essence. Such a strong concentration does not occur in nature. It should be used with caution, after consulting with a specialist, and taking into account all contraindications.

  • It is necessary to test the oil for an allergic reaction by applying it to the wrist. The resulting redness will be a natural reaction of the body to the concentrate. If itching and burning are felt for more than 5 minutes, it is better to refuse the use of this drug.
  • Ether can be applied to the skin only by mixing it with a base oil, selected according to skin type, cream or any other components of home masks (with the exception of acne spot treatment). The dosage can be from 2 to 7 drops per 15 grams of base.
  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • It is better not to use citrus oils during periods of solar activity before going outside, and even more so before relaxing on the beach or visiting the solarium. They contribute to the production of melatonin in the body, which will not allow the tan to lie flat, but randomly scatter it with dark spots in an arbitrary form.
  • Absolutely every essential oil has an individual, unique smell, therefore, when choosing, one should take into account not only the type of skin, but also taste preferences in a variety of flavors.
