Types of oils
It is very important to distinguish between pharmacy vegetable oils and synthetic ones - silicone (vaseline, for example) and mineral.
First of all, vegetable are divided into two types: basic and essential. As a rule, it is desirable to use the latter in tandem with the former. They complement each other, and this is the only way to achieve maximum effect. Some have pronounced aromatic properties, others have Ayurvedic (healing) properties.
What hair oil to choose you will learn in the video:
Basic vegetable
Base vegetable oils are further subdivided into liquid (fatty) and solid (butters). All of them are made by cold pressing, their only difference is the temperature at which they retain a liquid consistency. They are used both in pure form and as part of various masks and mixtures with essential oils as a base.
Fatty ones tend to be versatile. Their main function is nutrition and hydration. They can act as a hydrophilic oil for removing cosmetics. The aromatic property is not as pronounced as in essential ones - they almost do not smell. They are sold both in closed containers - for example, massage or cosmetic oils, and in the form of handicraft soap. In turn, it is divided into refined and unrefined. Hardens at temperatures below 20 degrees.
Batters freeze already at temperatures below 30 degrees. They have been widely used in professional cosmetology - as the basis for balms, scrubs, creams and soaps. The most famous "representatives" are coconut, cocoa, mango, palm and shea (karite).

We select according to the type of hair
To study the properties of oils is still half the battle, the main thing is to choose the right ones specifically for your hair.
- For straightening curly or wavy hair. The foundation: coconut, almond. Essential oils: orange, ylang-ylang.
Universal coconut oil can be used on any hair type. It nourishes and fills the strands with vitamins and minerals, keeps them healthy and shiny. Great for weekly care of brittle and in need of moisture hair.Due to the laminating effect, it is often added to various straightening masks.
- For dry or colored hair. The foundation: macadamia oil, almond oil, amla oil, peach kernel oil. Essential: ylang-ylang, lavender, jasmine, neroli, geranium, juniper.
Nut oils are considered the most nutritious, and macadamia is one of the most affordable. Use it on very dry or damaged hair as a weekly mask or to treat your heat-treated curls.
- To get rid of dandruff. The foundation: almond oil, or jojoba, linseed, burdock. From essential oils tea tree and rosemary for dry hair and lavender, eucalyptus, frankincense, neroli, pine, fennel for oily.
Along with antioxidants, vitamin E, fatty acids, and proteins, almond oil also contains magnesium, which will help speed up hair growth and reduce breakage. If you suffer from scalp irritation, try massaging your scalp with almond oil every time you wash your hair to reduce inflammation, redness, and dandruff.
- For dull and devoid of shine and volume of hair. The foundation: butter, olive, argan, shea, almond, jojoba, avocado, linseed. Essential: lemon, orange, mint, lemongrass.
Due to the presence of fatty acids, butter will give hair silkiness, elasticity and shine. It will also help minimize the negative impact of the environment and does not dry the curls at all. For thin hair, devoid of basal volume, peppermint oil is perfect. It works due to the cooling effect, actively cleansing the scalp and every hair.
Application rules
Oils in mixtures or solo can be used as:
- Shampoo additives. Most suitable for oily hair.Add no more than five drops of citrus / pine oil to a serving of shampoo during shampooing and leave for five minutes. Tea tree, mint and eucalyptus are best suited for this.
- masks. Independent at the rate of 1 tablespoon of the base 5-6 drops of ether, or as an additive to a ready-made professional mask.
- Leave-in, fluid. A couple of drops of light oil are applied to the fingertips and rubbed between them, then - on the ends of the hair slightly dried with a towel. The best for this are coniferous, orange, as well as jojoba, avocado and grape seeds.
- Massage products. It works like a root mask. The right amount of the mixture should be applied to the scalp and rubbed for 5-10 minutes and left for at least an hour. Additionally, you can warm up with a hairdryer - as, by the way, and masks.
- Scrub for the scalp. You need to take two or three tablespoons of coarse sea salt and add five or six drops of base and essential oils. Let it brew for literally ten minutes and take it with you to the shower - there, on a cleanly washed, preferably deeply cleansing shampoo, apply the head with massaging movements. Massage for 5 minutes, leave for another 10-20.
If we are talking about masks, then you need to be able to apply them.
Oil masks can be smeared on both dirty and clean hair, the only rule in this case is that the mask must be washed off. Such masks are washed off worse than ready-made ones - since they are not equipped with silicones responsible for this. You will need to shampoo your hair at least twice, and it is better to wash dry hair the first time. It should be applied with palms, on the roots - with them or with a cotton pad. Keep from one to eight hours, you can go to bed with a mask on your head.
Oils for cosmetic purposes are sold in pharmacies and cosmetic stores in ampoules or capsules for single use or in bottles ranging in size from 1.5 to 200 ml.

Recipes at home
In order to get the maximum benefit from oils, you need to be able to “cook” them correctly.
For hair growth and stop hair loss
Compound: almond oil, castor oil, oil form of vitamin E (or one capsule), calendula tincture, optionally orange, bay or ylang-ylang ether.
It is required to take a tablespoon of base oils, five or six drops of essential oils, mix thoroughly, add a tablespoon or two of alcohol tincture of calendula. Apply the resulting mixture two to three times a week only on the hair roots. The mask actively fights hair loss, strengthens and awakens hair follicles. Keep no more than three hours, wash off if you feel uncomfortable, and next time reduce the amount of tincture or remove it altogether.
For density and splendor of weakened and thin hair (only dark)
Compound: cocoa powder, kefir or natural yogurt, castor oil, coconut, orange and honey
Melt one or two (depending on the length) tablespoon of honey in a water bath, add a tablespoon of castor and the same amount of coconut, five to six drops of orange. A third of a glass of kefir or yogurt, two tablespoons of cocoa powder. Mix everything thoroughly, for easier washing it is recommended to add a spoonful of hair balm. Hold for up to two hours, otherwise the cocoa will begin to harden, and it will be problematic to unravel the curls.
For elasticity and silkiness of light curls
Compound: egg, half a glass of milk (1/4 cup is enough for short hair), lemon, olive oil
If your hair is oily, use protein. If to dryness - yolk. For normal use the whole egg. Beat it - you can use a mixer. Add milk and olive oil and mix well. Squeeze out half a lemon. You need to keep it for fifteen minutes, and rinse it off with cool water.
Banana for nutrition
Compound: 1 to 2 soft bananas, 1 teaspoon coconut oil, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon honey.
Mash bananas with a fork or blender. Add runny honey and coconut oil and mix again. Apply to the roots and distribute through the hair, collect them in a bun at the crown and hold from half an hour to three.
