How to remove paint from jeans?
Among the many problems that arise during the repair, there is paint contamination of clothing. Moreover, a stain of paint can be “planted” at work, at the entrance, on a bench in the park, and in many other places. It is important to know how to deal with such a situation and not destroy the thing completely with ill-conceived measures. However, the work of cleaning denim has its own specifics and features that must be taken into account.
What kind of paint can cause stains?
Often water-soluble paint gets on jeans. In addition to her, sometimes you have to deal with clogging of trousers such varieties:
- Aerosol paints;
- Compositions for hair coloring;
- Color and black printer ink.
Oil paint is bad because it does not wash off with water at all. Water-based compositions dissolve well, and it is most correct to immediately, as soon as the stain is planted, soak it with warm water or hold it over steam. Then the jeans are washed with the usual detergent - dish gels, powders, laundry soap with a brush. The solubility of the paint must be taken into account, remember that it can spread, therefore, cleanse the spot, moving from its borders to the middle. The rest of the water-based paint after cleaning is removed with medical alcohol or nail polish remover. If you managed to cope with the marks, wash your jeans in the usual way anyway.
Regardless of which of the mentioned types of paint got on the clothes, removing it will be a rather difficult task, because in any case, the most resistant substances are used for dyeing, which adhere well to the surface, quickly absorb into it and are resistant to destruction.
Fabric Features
The popularity of denim is understandable: it is durable, reliable and wears out little, but it is precisely because of the high density of the matter that any dirt that gets on jeans almost instantly penetrates into the deeper layers. It will be more difficult to remove it than a surface stain. Denim fabric of any kind necessarily contains cotton fibers in its composition, therefore clothes from it should not be machine washed at temperatures above 40 degrees.
In the presence of embroidery and decor, washing at temperatures above 30 degrees is not allowed.
Choose modes with a maximum speed of 800 rpm, and the function of enhanced rinsing will not be superfluous. Load washing machines with jeans and denim clothing that is half the size of your regular load so as not to overload them. No bleach or oxygen containing productsUse only powders for colored laundry.
What to wash?
Oil paints can also be removed with folk remedies - mix washing powder with butter, rub the mixture into the stain and wash after 3-5 minutes. Acetone removes paint well: soak a cotton swab in it and gently wipe the dirt.
Do not use too much acetone, do not touch a clean surface with it.This tool is not at all suitable for working with black or bright trousers, but white and other light colors are almost safe.
Another remedy that can be used to remove the stain would be White Spirit. Use both reagents only with gloves, in the open air or near an open window.
Stain removers for jeans are the safest to use, but be sure to find out if your product can handle paint or not.
When there are no cleaning products at all at home, cover a fresh stain with soap, soak it and bring either the same stain removers or white spirit as soon as possible. To be sure to get rid of dirt, sometimes you have to wash a thing repeatedly, the stain may disappear only after the third or fourth wash.
Do not use automotive gasoline, boat gasoline, because the additives included in its composition will only stain the fabric even more. Take the one that is designed for lighters.
The original remedy is a mixture of white clay (one tablespoon) with the same amount of pure gasoline. Mix the workpiece thoroughly and rub it on the place of contamination. After drying, the mixture is washed off with soapy water or a powder diluted in water. Clay can be replaced with ordinary chalk.
Preparatory work
Preparation is especially important when dealing with old stains. They are soaked with an aqueous solution of glycerin for half an hour. Only after that it makes sense to proceed to the use of a stain remover, to washing, and so on. If there is no glycerin in the apartment, then there will definitely be sunflower oil. Do not be afraid to leave greasy marks, they are easily removed by dishwashing detergents.
Any agent that is potent or unfamiliar to you in terms of its effect on the tissue should be used as carefully as possible.
How can you scrub?
You will have to use either mechanical cleaning or strong agents to remove water-insoluble oil paint. Often these methods are combined: first, the stain is scraped with a rubber spatula, the blunt side of a knife, a wooden spatula, then a preparation is used to remove oils - it is relatively gentle. If this remedy does not help, you need to use solvents, but don't forget to test them on invisible areas. Vegetable oil must be kept for half an hour, it is best to apply it with a cotton pad (so you will get less dirty yourself).
This treatment does not replace the need for normal washing after visible cleaning is completed. This is the only way to remove the base, the “core” of pollution.
At home, it is quite possible to cope with watercolor pollution, it is eliminated by a simple treatment with laundry soap. After rubbing with a bar, rinse the fabric in clean warm water. When clogged with gouache or watercolor, wash the dirty place with running water (necessarily cold) and soak in soapy water for a short time. To finally remove the remaining traces, additional reagents are used. Be careful with dark fabrics, they can become covered with white stains.
Remove paint from jeans (acrylic) as soon as possible. First of all, remove the dried particles with a blunt object, blot a fresh stain with a napkin to remove as much paint as possible. Jeans are turned inside out and washed under running cold water, then washed with a generous addition of powder and fabric softener. It happens so, unfortunately, that the stain is washed off badly. Then it can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol, which is poured onto the marks and rubbed towards the center with an old toothbrush. An alternative option is soaking a mixture of ammonia and table vinegar in an aqueous solution, followed by washing. You need to soak for half an hour.
If you are embarrassed when dyeing your hair, first wipe the affected area with warm water using a sponge. After that, it will be possible to remove stains with glycerin, a solution of salt and vinegar, ammonia. Important: all these manipulations should be completed with a full wash. When paint from an aerosol can has got on the fabric, it is advisable to use professional products - stain remover, powder.
Sometimes very fresh dirt can be removed with a cotton swab dipped in medical alcohol. Printer ink can be removed with a paste made from a mixture of alcohol and soda: it is applied to the problematic part of the trousers, then you will need to wait half an hour and wash the clothes with stain remover. Washing soiled jeans is not that difficult, you just need to recognize the type of paint and act deliberately.
Recommendations
If the stain appeared a few minutes ago, it is still possible to remove it with the simplest means. Wash it with laundry soap, rub the foam with a stiff brush. If at least a little paint has come off, you need to stand the soaped jeans for 2-3 hours, then wash again and rinse thoroughly.
This method copes with water-based paints, other compositions are cleaned much worse.
Just as actively as laundry soap, any concentrated dishwashing detergent cleans paint stains.
In many cases, the trace of the paint is not detected immediately, or the measures taken "in hot pursuit" do not give a good effect. There are special ways by which you can remove old paint from jeans. Start with a stiff brush or knife, but be as careful as possible to keep the fabric intact. The next step is washing with clean gasoline: a soft, unnecessary rag is placed under the wrong side, which will absorb the seeping excess. On the front side, the stain is rubbed from the edges to the middle, without undue zeal. When cleaning of visible traces is completed, Thoroughly lather the problem area, rub and rinse.
To finally fix the result, you need to wash the jeans in the machine, however, keep in mind that liquid detergents are used before loading things into the machine, and capsules should be put in when the jeans are already washed.
Very old stains can sometimes be removed with a combination of turpentine and a soda solution. First, fill the paint with turpentine, wait until its visible traces disappear. Dissolve a tablespoon of soda in a glass of water, thoroughly wash the damaged part of the jeans. And again, you will have to complete all the work by machine washing. Alternatively, you can apply glycerin in the evening and leave until the morning, and the next day, clean the remaining dirt with ordinary alcohol.
Glycerin should be heated in a water bath.
Prevention of contamination of trousers with paint is not difficult, but it will not be superfluous to repeat the simplest recommendations. Always work with building paints carefully and without undue haste, remember "saved" minute can turn into long hours of soaking, washing, or you will even lose a piece of clothing. When preparing for painting work, it is worth changing into something that you will not be sorry for, have solvents and acetone ready to immediately remove fresh stains. On the street, in any building, watch where you sit, what you lean against.
If you still need to clean, be sure to follow the instructions for the solvent or cleaning agent. Do not exceed the permissible concentrations and processing times, even if the contamination is very large and deeply ingrained: it is better to repeat a couple of times than to get an ugly hole. When there is no confidence in a good result, or attempts to solve the problem on your own did not help, it is better to immediately take the item to dry cleaning, it will be safer and more reliable.
