Every girl strives to take care of her hands, and the key to success in this business is a beautiful and stylish manicure. To date, it has become not at all difficult to achieve this, since gel polishes have appeared in our lives, which allow us to keep a manicure in an ideal, irresistible form for quite a long time.

To cover nails with gel polish, there are single-phase, two-phase and three-phase systems.

They have significant differences, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. What is the difference between a single-phase gel polish and a three-phase one - we will try to understand.

General characteristics of coatings

Single-phase systems have a combined structure, which consists of a coloring pigment, a base and a finish. The coating has a liquid consistency.

Three-phase systems are on sale in 3 separate bottles.

Each varnish performs its own function: the base provides a tight adhesion of the color coating to the nail plate, the transparent finish (top) gives strength and fixes the manicure.

The main difference between three-phase and single-phase gel polishes is that in the first, each layer has its own separate tool for the correct and high-quality manicure. In single-phase systems, the coating combines all these components at once.

You will learn more about what single-phase and two-phase gels are from the following video.

Let's take a closer look at each of the systems.

single phase

This type of coating is more suitable for beginners who are just starting to learn and practice various manicure techniques.

The advantage of single-phase gel polishes is that there is no need to purchase many tools and materials, and there is no need to cover several layers. All this reduces the cost of coverage. In addition, using such a coating is very simple - there is no need to delve into complex technologies for applying three-phase coatings.

Another advantage is the speed of manicure, with single-phase gels, work is less time-consuming.

The disadvantage of single-phase systems is the fact that it is impossible to achieve the formation of an ideal marigold. This is due to the fact that this type of coating already initially contains a mixture of layers that were conceived to be completely different in their tasks and structure.

These required layers include:

  1. strengthening primer - liquid, quickly and efficiently absorbed;
  2. modeling layer - durable, with its help the ideal shape of the nail is created;
  3. protective layer - allows you to extend the period of wearing a manicure.

In single-phase gels, the first two layers are mixed, which in itself worsens the properties of each of the phases. And the third protective layer is completely absent in them, which makes the manicure not so durable. The maximum period for wearing this coating is two weeks. And it also happens that the gel polish begins to crack much earlier - this often happens when the girl's nails are long or they have a soft structure. But there is a solution to this problem - you can prevent cracking and the rapid appearance of chips by applying a special top coat, which is designed for use with single-phase gel polishes.

Another disadvantage of single-phase systems is that gel polish can drain, and this, in turn, slows down the nail modeling process, and the result is not very uniform.

It is also worth noting another drawback - the inability to perform complex nail designs. This is due to the fact that there is no sticky layer in single-phase gels, which means that it will be almost impossible to decorate the nail in an original way.

All the advantages of such systems will definitely please novice masters, however, customers are unlikely to agree to put up with such significant shortcomings.

Two-phase

When performing this type of manicure, the nails are first treated with a base, which must be dried in an ultraviolet lamp, and after that a modeling layer is applied.

Three-phase

The three-phase system differs from the two-phase system by the use of a final gel, which is necessary to remove the sticky layer. This gel speeds up the process of work and performs a protective function against external aggressive factors.

In general, the sequence of work with three-phase gel polishes looks like this:

  1. We perform a manicure (shaping the nails, removing and pushing back the cuticle), degreasing the surface of the nails.
  2. We apply the base and dry it in an ultraviolet or LED lamp
  3. We apply the first layer of colored gel polish and dry it in a lamp. If necessary, repeat the application of colored layers, while each of them does not forget to dry well.
  4. Remove the sticky layer.
  5. We apply the top layer (finish) and dry it again in the lamp.

The unequivocal advantage of a three-phase coating is its resistance to external influences and durability. You will need to update your manicure much less often. This effect is provided by the use of base and finish. It is they who most tightly fasten together all the components of the coating with the nail plate.

In addition to its durability, this coating also provides an attractive glossy sheen due to the top layer.

The entire period of wear (and it lasts an average of 3 weeks, and sometimes longer) the coating does not deform, and the original color does not fade.

And of course, all fashionistas will be pleased with the fact that when using multi-phase systems, you can safely use all kinds of decorative elements in nail design, they will hold well, because they will be tightly sealed in the coating layers.

The disadvantages of three-phase gel polishes include the financial side of the issue, since more funds will need to be invested to purchase them. At a time, you need to buy 3 bottles for coating at once instead of one.

Another factor that should also be taken into account is the duration of the manicure. In the case of three-phase gels, the work will definitely take more time.

It is also worth noting that only a professional master can cope with the manicure procedure using three-phase gel polishes, since its application is a very complicated procedure that requires certain experience, knowledge and technology. If you are choosing a gel polish for independent home use, it is best for these purposes to opt for single-phase products.

Please note that whichever tool you choose from the listed ones, you must definitely pay attention to the quality of the material. And the easiest way to distinguish it is by smell - in high-quality coatings there is no sharp unpleasant odor. If there is no pungent odor, then the composition does not contain dangerous components that adversely affect human health.

Having studied the information on the differences and features of single-phase and three-phase gel polishes, you can easily make a decision and make a choice in favor of one of the products.
