About the brand

The Puma brand, founded in 1948, has German roots. Unlike other sports and fashion labels, which were created from the fusion of the ideas of several talented people, Puma was born out of a family dispute between two brothers.

It all started in a small town in Germany, where the Dassler brothers Rudolf and Adolf were born and raised. Their father worked in a shoe factory and their mother ran a small laundry.

Rudolph, being an older brother, often helped his father, later he went to the army, and his younger brother created a factory called the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. Initially, the production was located in the courtyard of the Dassler house. Each of the brothers was engaged in his own business: Adolf created new models of sports shoes, and Rudolf was engaged in the distribution of advertising and the sale of products.

The brothers enjoyed a period of success in 1925 when Adolf created football boots with metal spikes. Being a lover of this sport, the younger brother Dassler was incredibly happy that his new thing had become quite popular. A couple of years after this event, the brothers rented a small factory near their home, where they located their already expanded production. Thanks to strong popularity and rapid growth in sales, a year later they were able to buy the building and become its full owners.

Since the elder brother Rudolf was the acting director of marketing, it was he who went to the World Olympics, which was held that year in Amsterdam. He tried to meet as many athletes as possible in order to offer them Dassler shoes, but did not achieve much success.

Only a few players agreed to his proposal, but that was not bad either. Gradually, the popularity of delirium grew. Every year more and more athletes put on shoes manufactured by the Dassler brothers and, on top of everything else, they won resounding victories.

Well, this brand gained the greatest popularity after the Austrian team won second place at the Berlin Olympics. The fact is that almost the entire football team was wearing Dassler sports boots. After that, the brothers began to receive a huge number of orders for shoes. Sales grew, popularity was gaining momentum and turnover reached an all-time high figure, and after the Second World War, it almost doubled.

But, unfortunately, with the growth of popularity and income, the good attitude of the brothers towards each other began to disappear. Adolf and Rudolf held different political views, one believed that the Nazis were to blame for the poor state of the country, the other made accusations against the anti-Hitler coalitions. One day, Dassler's older brother was called to the police for questioning; upon returning home, he accused his younger brother of this call.

In vain he tried to justify himself, saying that he had nothing to do with this incident.Rudolph did not want to believe his brother, and Adolf refused to make excuses, so the brothers quarreled very badly and the end came not only to family ties, but also to the sports shoe company called Dassler.

Since the brothers had two shoe factories, the separation and division took place rather quietly. In 1948, they finally parted ways and each founded their own brand.

Adolf founded Adidas using the first letters of his first and last name (Adolf Dassler). This brand is still a giant in the sports world, which few can compete with.

It is engaged in the production of not only sports shoes, but also clothing, accessories and other sports goods. It is safe to say that Adolf Dassler succeeded in his business.

His older brother also began to establish his own production and, following the example of his brother, named his brand Ruda (Rudolf Dassler). After a short time, the name was changed to a more sonorous and beautiful version of Puma.

And so a popular brand was born, which still occupies a strong place in the sports world and is a worthy competitor to the brotherly company.

The factories competed very strongly with each other, each signed a contract with local football teams and dressed "their" players from head to toe. Likewise, workers at the factory were required to fully comply with the dress code, namely the absence of competitor's shoes in a uniform.

The oldest Puma model, released almost immediately after the creation of the brand, is the Atom sports boot model. It immediately becomes the object of increased attention from athletes and many of them begin to participate in competitions and olympiads in this Puma boot model.

Since Rudolf was a competent marketer and had a good team of advertisers in his business, he quickly and well advertised his brand by signing contracts with football players and other athletes. In case of victory in some major competition, the Puma player received additional cash rewards as an incentive for additional advertising, because the winners are always in front of everyone.

The company is actively working to improve the quality of its models and uses all the new technological methods to create shoes. Thus, new comfortable models of sneakers with Velcro without laces appeared, and new models are being developed that are created taking into account the type of sport, as well as the quality of the soil or weather.

Unlike his brother, Rudolf decided to spread not only in the football field, but also in other sports, he begins to produce shoes for athletes, basketball players, runners and many others. Unfortunately, Puma failed to introduce its brand into winter sports, as there were already enough companies in this niche that did not tolerate competition.

In 1975, this brand begins to produce not only sports shoes, but also a clothing line. In this way, the company manages to dress athletes from head to toe, which gives it another advantage.

In 1970 another significant event took place for Puma. At the World Cup, which was held in Mexico, the incredible and unique Pele performed in the finals in the boots of this particular brand. Not only did the great footballer score as many as four goals and ensured the championship for his team, during the game Pele came closer to the cameras, put his foot forward and began to tie up the laces on his boots. Thus, not only those present at the match, but also the viewers could see that the king of football was wearing Puma football shoes.

This gave the brand incredible popularity, crowds of fans rushed to buy Puma sports shoes. Further, Rudolf Dassler continues to conclude contracts with world football and other sports stars. A new line of luxury boots called Puma King is being released. They were equipped with a new cushioning sole that reduced the load on the heel during running. This model of leather sneakers had water-repellent properties, which was also very convenient for athletes.

The golden age of Puma lasted until the departure of the creator of this brand, Rudolf Dassler. Unfortunately, his children were not able to conduct business in the same competent way and they soon had to sell part of the company's shares.

But the situation changed for the better when a new Chief Executive Officer, Johan Seitz, came to the label, who faced a rather difficult task: in a short time he had to strengthen the brand's position and return it to its place in the sports niche.

It was not an easy matter, because just at that time, in addition to Adidas, the American Nike entered the European market, which was a fairly strong competitor for the German brand and significantly pressed its influence in the countries of its native mainland.

Johan decided to change tactics and switch to a larger audience. He decided to make sports accessible to everyone and focuses on the active lifestyle of citizens. Just at this time, sport and sporty style come into fashion, which is very good for Puma. The concern produces several lines of women's, men's and children's clothing and footwear.

The sale of sports accessories also begins. They also do not disregard their main audience - the youth. To attract people from fifteen to twenty years old, Puma invites fashion designers and technologists to create shoes and clothes that are ideal in appearance and practicality and achieve increased sales and popularity of the brand.

But Puma did not refuse sports games either. They sponsored several sports, but Formula 1 brought them the greatest popularity in 2001. Here the brand dressed two brands of Porsche and Sparko at once, as well as German BMW and French Renault became the clients of the popular label in auto racing. The main and most famous customer was Ferrari and the great Michael Schumacher in 2004, who drove exclusively in Puma. The only non-brand item in Schumacher's suit was the helmet, which was made by a professional company.

The brand, led by Johan, has also invested in other sports. The CEO began to cooperate with yacht racing, for this the concern produces a special collection of clothes and shoes called Puma Sailing and builds its own yacht for personal participation in races.

The company was a huge success, sales grew and multiplied many times over. The consequence of this was that in 2007 Puma buys PPR Group - a famous holding that misses many luxury brands. They continue to work with the stars and release new models of clothes and shoes. Old models are also not forgotten, they will forever remain in the history of this brand.

Puma's most recent collaboration was with the sister of the famous socialite and American diva Kim Kardashian - Kylie Jenner. The girl is popular not only for her famous relatives, she has a huge number of followers on Instagram, releases a successful line of lip glosses and has a very popular tumbler. The collaboration turned out to be very successful for both Kylie and Puma, which introduced a new collection of clothes and shoes for running, fitness, and other sports.

Running models were very popular and, in addition to profits, brought additional fame to both the girl and the brand.

In general, now the company feels good and calmly competes with its main rivals - Adidas and Nike.
