How to prepare rose water at home?
Rose water, which has many beneficial properties, is actively used not only in home recipes, but also in modern cosmetology. This product is easy to make at home.
How to collect the ingredients?
Rose water consists of two main components: water itself, which is a solvent, as well as rose extract, a solute. The dissolution process itself is carried out by steam distillation. The easiest way to get rose extract is from flower petals.
Experts recommend collecting this ingredient only in your own garden or in a proven place, since purchased roses in most cases contain harmful substances that are not indicated anywhere. In addition, it is imperative that the flowers are not treated with chemicals, including insecticides or fungicides.
To obtain such a “cleaned” shrub, it is better to take care of it with a solution of laundry soap, celandine infusion or wood ash. Rose petals must necessarily have a bright smell, since the little-smelling specimens contain very few useful essential oils.
The shade of flowers can be both pink and red - a cosmetic product in both cases will be useful.Of course, the petals cannot be withered, but it is better to collect them in the morning of the day when the process of preparing cosmetics is planned.
Before starting to create a rose solution, it is better to rinse the petals with cold water.
Cooking methods
Make rose water at home possible in several ways. In the first case rose petals, from which it is planned to make a remedy, are arranged in a saucepan in such a way as to obtain two layers. Clean water is poured into the container until the plants are completely hidden. Next, you need to do the following: find a bowl or glass jar of a suitable size and place it in the center so that the top edge only slightly rises above the water level. Having covered the pan with an inverted lid, the dishes must be put on fire. The inverted lid, by the way, will ensure that the required condensate enters the center of the bowl and “collects” steam on the lid.
Bringing the contents of the container to a boil, it is necessary to reduce the heat and place a few ice cubes on the surface of the lid. Rose water is prepared in a similar way for an hour or even more, moreover, new ice cubes are periodically added to the same place. In addition, it is important to ensure that the water in which the rose petals are located does not completely boil away. If this still happens, then you must immediately add fresh water. After this period, it is necessary to remove the lid and get a bowl with the resulting rose water. It is better to store the cosmetic product in a hermetically sealed glass container, put in the refrigerator.
In order to implement another recipe for rose water for the face at home, the first thing you need to do is also place the petals in a saucepan, fill them with water and place a bowl inside. However, the lid should be positioned in the usual way without turning over. The pot is put on fire, but not brought to a boil. It will only be necessary to wait for the flowers to lose their color, which will take from half an hour to an hour, and then pour the liquid into a separate container. It is important to squeeze the petals as much as possible to get all the useful components. After straining rose water, it can be poured into a sterilized bottle and put into a refrigerator. Proper storage will ensure the safety of the product for almost two weeks.
There is, in principle, another way to make rose water, and quite simple. The washed petals are poured with boiling water so as to completely hide under water. In this case, about two glasses of filtered or distilled liquid are used per glass of plants. Having covered the solution with a lid or a bay in a thermos, it must be left to infuse from 2 hours to almost a day (in the case of a thermos, it is better to wait 12 hours). In principle, the resulting tonic can already be used as soon as it cools down. For convenience, the liquid will have to be filtered, cleaned of the remnants of the petals and poured into a resealable jar. If desired, a coffee spoon of apple cider vinegar, a sprig of fresh mint or a couple of drops of lemon juice are added to the water. The resulting product will have a brighter aroma, and the beneficial properties are much more extensive.
You can still try to prepare a cosmetic product from purchased roses, but the flowers used will need to be thoroughly washed first. For cooking in this case, you will need 5-6 buds of fresh roses and a couple of glasses of distilled water. Having placed the petals in a heat-resistant dish, it is necessary to fill them with freshly boiled water. After covering the solution with a lid, you must wait about 30 minutes, then strain the liquid and pour it into a pre-sterilized bottle.
Rose water can be prepared from essential oil. Despite the fact that the product will not be a classic variation, it will definitely bring benefits to the skin. To create a cosmetic product, rose oil is simply diluted with distilled water, and for every 5 drops of the substance there should be 50 milliliters of liquid.
It is possible to create a variation of rose water from dry petals. In this case, 300 milliliters of hot filtered water will require about a quarter cup of dried petals.
Experts recommend purchasing them in stores specializing in the storage of medicinal herbs. Parts of the plant are laid out in a glass container, and pure water is brought to a boil and cooled for 3 minutes. Hot water is poured into a container with petals, which is then covered with a lid. When the contents have cooled, it can be strained and poured into a container used for storage, equipped with a tight lid. Store the product in the refrigerator for a week or 10 days. By the way, if you add a tablespoon of alcohol to the water, then the shelf life will increase to 1 month.
