The tradition of wearing caps is found among different nations. The design of these hats differs depending on the climatic and other living conditions, as well as on the characteristics of the national mentality.

The Georgian airfield cap became popular in the first half of the last century. Initially, the local population was offered Sicilian flat caps - coppolas. But since the Georgians are very fond of exaggerating everything, they soon became of enormous size, because of which they were called "airfields".

The first workshop for tailoring Georgian caps was opened by the tenor of Italian origin Salvatore Coccuzza at the end of the 19th century. An accident forced him into this business. As a result of the fire, the local opera house was almost completely destroyed, and the entire troupe was left without a livelihood.

Opening a workshop for sewing caps, the enterprising Italian did not expect that his hats would appeal to the local population. He offered the first products to the Germans living in Tiflis. But soon coppol caps became so popular that Kokuzza opened a second workshop in Kutaisi.

For several decades, the coppola has completely taken root in Georgia, and after that it was transformed into a Georgian airfield cap. This headdress is characterized by:

1. Large diameter.
2. Perfectly flat bottom.
3. Highly raised back.
4. Massive visor.

Initially, caps were made from thick woolen fabric, which was imported from Cuba. But later they began to use broadtail. Such hats were very often worn by the most respected men of the family, since the broadtail airfield cap was very expensive. Soon this tradition was adopted from the Georgians by the Armenians.

After the Second World War, a large number of workshops for sewing airfield caps worked in Georgia. Every self-respecting Georgian had to have a large cap. And the more - the better.

The cap-airfield gained the greatest popularity in the expanses of the former USSR after the release of the film "Mimino". The main character, performed by Vakhtang Kikabidze, wore just such a headdress.

Today, large flat caps can often be seen on young men and girls, but the traditional Georgian cap with a flat top, like an airfield runway, is no longer worn. In Georgia, there are only a few small workshops left where you can order the manufacture of such a headdress. Their customers are people who wore such airfield caps in their youth, they remain faithful to them now.

But the progenitor of the Georgian cap is still popular all over the world. Coppola is worn by everyone, regardless of status and financial condition. This is a very practical and stylish hat.

From the moment of its appearance, the coppola, and later the Georgian airfield cap, were exclusively male headdresses.Today, almost everyone wears such caps. In a large flat cap, you can see both men and women, both boys and girls.

1. The boys are very restless, love to run, jump and misbehave. A hooligan cap, sewn from the same principle as a coppola, but a little more voluminous, will emphasize the freedom-loving disposition of your fidget.
2. Men's flat caps in soft wool are the perfect complement to a short coat or jacket made from the same material. This set is suitable for trips out of town, walks around the city and romantic dates.
3. Women can also use a large cap as a headdress. Boyfriend jeans, a T-shirt and a large flat cap made of gray soft wool - this is the image of a hooligan girl who rebels against the ordinary!
4. If you prefer a more formal style, then choose a flat, solid color cap, the visor of which is decorated with silk cord and lace.
5. A flat cap goes well with a loose-fitting trouser suit made of wool blend fabric. Wear it over a vest and be sure to tie a man's tie. Such an image will not go unnoticed.
