Folk recipes for beauty and health have never ceased to be relevant, and now they are becoming more and more in demand. The secret of such success lies in the ease of use, safety for health and affordable price.

Henna is an element of folk recipes that came to us from oriental culture. It is well known to many as a hair coloring agent that has beneficial and nourishing properties. However, few people know that there is a special kind of this substance that can be successfully used for daily care of your face.

What it is?

The main features of henna lie in its origin. This environmentally friendly powder, which is obtained by processing natural ingredients, has been known since the days of ancient Egypt. Even then, henna was used as a basis for cosmetic preparations, as well as as a dye.

Henna is obtained from the lavsonia shrub by drying and grinding its leaves. The dry powder thus obtained is a natural colorless henna. It is in this form that it can be used to prepare most useful folk recipes for cosmetics.

The most popular of them is the recipe for a nourishing and rejuvenating face mask. It is known that in this way, women from the regions of Asia took care of their beauty for many generations.Until now, henna remains the main secret of the youth of girls from India. In the same place, henna is often used as a natural dye or an element of decorative cosmetics.

Composition and benefits

Of course, the benefits of henna, thanks to which it has gained such fame, lies in its composition. To date, it can be considered that it has been studied thoroughly. However, even this does not allow cosmetics manufacturers to reproduce the synthetic analogue of this extraordinary powder. The thing is that most of the substances included in it are unique natural materials, the analogues of which do not yet exist:

  • fisalene substance, which is a large part of the components of henna, has a calming effect. It can be compared to many anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Crisofanol - a unique component of henna that affects microbes and fungus. This makes cosmetics based on Lavsonia leaf powder a unique remedy for acne and any inflammatory or purulent skin diseases.
  • Rutin can be used to strengthen the walls of small blood vessels and capillaries.
  • Emodin in many respects similar to the fisalen given above. It not only enhances its effectiveness, but also has an independent local anti-inflammatory effect and can act as an antiseptic component.
  • Part of henna zeaxanthin plays the role of a soft, but quite effective abrasive.
  • Betaine - a unique natural moisturizer that easily penetrates the cells of the dermis and promotes improved nutrition of deep tissues.
  • A small amount was found in colorless henna natural carotene, which becomes active when it enters the skin tissue. He returns her natural color (being a pigment substance).
  • Henna powder contains more variety vitamins and microelements, which are necessary for the nutrition of the dermis.

It is immediately worth noting that there are no coloring components in the composition of such a substance. The present carotene is only a natural pigment and takes on an active form only after it enters the skin.

Due to this, henna is considered one of the few effective cosmetics that can be used by women suffering from frequent allergic reactions.

Another valuable advantage of henna over other synthetic or natural remedies is that it can be used for absolutely any skin type. There are the following indications for the use of colorless henna (depending on existing problems):

  • With dry skin, the main problems are peeling and itching. The dermis is prone to rapid fluid loss, so it fades earlier than other types, wrinkles form on it. Any mask based on colorless henna with various nutritional supplements will help prevent such changes. The components in the product will help eliminate itching and other unpleasant symptoms. A thin protective film will form on the surface of the skin, which will give it a pleasant velvety structure, and will also prevent rapid water loss.
  • Oily skin suffers from excessive sebum production. Excess fat can accumulate in enlarged skin pores, resulting in inflammatory and purulent diseases of the dermis. Henna can not only cleanse it and remove dirt, but also stabilize the work of the sebaceous and sweat glands, so that the result is fixed for a long time.
  • For problematic skin types, a complex care product is needed. It should combine not only hydration and nutrition, but also delicate cleaning of the dermis and antibacterial effect. The benefits of colorless henna in this case are undeniable, because this remedy is unique (compared to many other cosmetic masks) and can provide all the desired effects.
  • Henna for the face can be used even for normal skin that does not have any visible defects. The vitamins and microelements contained in it will have a mild preventive effect on the dermis, which will rejuvenate it, maintain a healthy and well-groomed appearance for many years.

Application features

It is generally accepted that henna cannot harm the body. However, before using it, it is highly recommended to test for an allergic reaction. It doesn't matter if you make your own mask or use a ready-made "shop" product. It is enough to apply a small smear from the finished mask on the skin of the brush and wait about 15-20 minutes.

You can only make masks from diluted henna.

In its pure form, it is a white powdery mass that must be diluted and brought to a suitable texture in order to serve as the basis for a cosmetic mask. Some manufacturers offer ready-made dry mixes in which henna is initially combined with other additives, but this is not entirely true.

To bring the product to readiness, it is necessary to fill it with clean boiled water and keep the mixture in a container under the lid for about 15-20 minutes. Instead of water, it is recommended to use various herbal decoctions - for example, chamomile, nettle, sage.

You can apply a mask only on pre-cleansed skin.Be sure to wash off any cosmetics, even if it was used only for hygienic purposes. The face should be washed (even if there are no foreign products on it), since there can always be residues of dust, dirt, and sebum on the surface of the epidermis.

Never apply the mask for more than 20 minutes. This period of time is quite enough for all the useful components to completely penetrate the skin. If the product dries out in a shorter period of time, then it is best to wash it off immediately, otherwise it may provoke tightness.

If this happens or after using henna you feel burning and itching, then you should immediately remove the mask from your face and treat your skin with a soothing cream or ointment.

Before buying a product, be sure to pay attention to its composition. There are quite a few manufacturers who put too many extraneous components into the composition, and such a powder is no longer suitable for making a natural mask. Natural Iranian colorless or white henna, which consists only of natural processed dry leaves and stalks of lavsonia, is very popular. This base receives mostly positive reviews around the world, as masks prepared using it show the first results quite quickly.

Mask Recipes

The classic use of henna powder is a mask based on it without any additives. The fact is that this substance itself contains a lot of useful components, so it practically does not need any additives.Such a recipe is well suited for normal skin, as well as for oily and dry types of dermis, if at the time of use it does not suffer from pronounced inflammatory or purulent processes.

For one time, one tablespoon of powder is enough. It must be diluted by pouring a little herbal decoction or clean hot water into the container, and then insisting for 15 minutes. The resulting mixture should be heated in a water bath, as a warm remedy will open the pores much better and remove all the dirt from the skin.

Apply the mask in a thick enough layer (over the entire surface of the face). Should not be kept longer than 20 minutes. If the top layer dries too quickly, then it can be lightly sprayed with warm water from a spray bottle. After the procedure, rinse off the mask with warm water and treat the skin with a rich soothing cream.

Recipes that use natural additives to achieve the best effect will be useful:

  • For dry skin, a moisturizing mask is suitable. Fat sour cream and olive oil should be added to the finished henna mixture (in proportions 2: 1: 1).
  • To effectively cleanse oily skin, you can add a little kefir to the finished base. Such a tool provides a fairly deep (and at the same time delicate) peeling effect.
  • You can achieve an impressive whitening effect that will help get rid of unwanted age spots and freckles. Fresh parsley juice should be added to the colorless henna mixture ready for application. To get a good result, you should carry out procedures with such masks for several months (three times a week).
  • The easiest and most reliable way to give a henna mask additional properties is to add essential oils to it.Remember that such substances are very concentrated, so no more than a couple of drops should be added to one tablespoon of the base. The final result will depend entirely on which oil you decide to use. So, for example, tea tree soothes the skin well and solves the problem of inflammation, rosewood moisturizes it, but lemon essential oil will give the mask a more pronounced whitening effect.
