How to tie a bow tie
A bow tie is a very unusual and interesting accessory that should be present in every man's wardrobe. It will perfectly decorate any suit or tuxedo and help complete your stylish look.
Tie a bow tie is not as difficult as it seems. Any person who knows how to tie shoelaces can tie a tie, because the same ordinary knots are used. Knowing the basic rules of this simple matter, you can properly tie this fashion accessory around your neck if you do everything step by step.
Step-by-step instruction
The first step is determining the size of the bow tie. In order to properly tie a bow tie, you first need to raise the shirt collar, this will greatly facilitate your task, since the ties will be perfectly visible and it will not interfere with you. For those who are tying a tie for the first time, be sure to stand in front of a mirror and straighten up.
For the correct location of the tie on the neck, you need to correctly measure its girth. Measurements are best done with a centimeter, which is important to place correctly on the neck: the centimeter should be located at the lowest point of the Adam's apple in front and just below the middle of the neck in the back. An important rule: an index finger should pass between the measuring tape and the neck, this is necessary so that in the future the bow tie sits comfortably and does not rub the neck, such a tie will be very comfortable to wear.
Some of these accessories have marks on the ties that indicate the length of their girth. That is, if you already know your neck circumference, it will be very easy for you to choose the size that suits you, so first check if the size is indicated on the bow tie.
The next thing you need to do is to place the tie under the collar of the shirt, as if outweighing it, and take hold of its two hanging edges. The left end should be shorter than the right end by about three to five centimeters. If you are left-handed, then it is better, on the contrary, to make the right bow tie with a shorter edge, since you will do most of the actions for tying this accessory on the side where that part of the bow tie is located, which is shorter. Therefore, you need to take this fact into account when tying a bow tie.
The second step is to tie the tie directly. First you need to cross the ends of this accessory, while the longer end should be located on top of the short edge of the butterfly. The two edges should be fairly tightly crossed around your neck, as the bow tie should be tight enough not to be allowed to dangle or dangle around your neck. But at the same time, it is important to leave a distance at the neck at which it will be convenient for you to work with a butterfly when tying.
In the loop formed, you need to lower the long end of the tie with one hand, that is, you should get the most ordinary knot. The other hand should hold the butterfly at the point where its two edges intersect at the neck.
Then you need to take the long end and throw it over the intersection of the two edges of the bow tie. If you have the opportunity, it is better to tighten the tie after doing these steps, if this does not create inconvenience for you.
After tightening the butterfly, it's best to move the long end to the right, towards the shoulder, since you won't need it anymore. The second edge must be taken to the left and bent so that this fold is directed to the right side and the edge, looking to the left, is somewhat similar to an already tied bow tie. Then you need to lift this part and turn it ninety degrees so that later the loop will be happy, which should be located in the same place as the right edge that you threw over your shoulder. This fold will later be the front loop of the already tied tie, which is visible at the collar of the shirt between its corners.
The resulting loop must be covered with the other end of the tie that you previously lifted. The long edge, located on the shoulder, must be placed in the loop just made. Taking the edges of the resulting loop, connect together so that the edge located on top of the loop is located in the middle. The top end should be between the two edges of the loops.
Then you need to drag the middle part of the freely hanging end into the previously made knot. It forms the back of a knotted bow tie. So, after completing all the above steps, you get two separate parts of the butterfly that you made in the previous steps.
The third step is tightening. It is necessary to tighten the resulting bow tie, for this you need to stretch two opposite ends in different directions. To loosen the bow tie a little, you should pull the front right end of it with the opposite back left end. Conversely, to tighten the bow tie, you need to pull the front left and opposite back edge. These actions should be performed to give your accessory the necessary shape and elasticity.
At the end of the process of tying a bow tie, it is necessary to evenly position it, that is, align it to give it the desired look. To make this process easier, first loosen the bow tie and then tighten it again to your liking when you're done. Now you can lower the collar of the shirt back, since all the necessary actions with the bow tie have been completed, it is tied! Important advice: it is better to at least sometimes check whether the tie has retained its original appearance and do not let it untie.
Before starting to tie a tie around your neck, try to tie a bow tie on the thigh of your leg first. So it will be more convenient for you to hold your hands, they will not get tired and you will be able to understand the general principle of this matter. It is advised to practice on the thigh, since, as a rule, its girth coincides with the girth of the neck. If the above steps seem complicated to you, try to imagine that you are not tying a bow tie, but ordinary shoelaces, because the knot used is based on the same steps as any other ordinary knot.
When you get comfortable with tying a bow tie, you can try adjusting the size of its sharp corners and the width of the knot. Each person can tie this fashion accessory in their own way and thanks to it it will look original and unique.
The main thing is that you feel comfortable in your bow tie so that it is pleasant to wear it. You should like it both tactilely and visually, the bow tie should fit your look and complement it perfectly, being a fashionable accent of your style.
