The bolo tie has the shape of a lace. When they talk about such a tie, images of a man in cowboy clothes, in a hat, with a silver badge with a cord around his neck, immediately pop up in my head. This type of tie really comes from Mexico, the country of cowboys. In addition to cowboys, the Navajo American Indians also wore such an accessory on their tanned courageous necks. But historically it is considered that the first creator of such a model of a tie is the Arizona master Victor Kedastraf, who invented the design of this unusual tie in the forties and fifties of the twentieth century. He invented the following design: a leather cord is fixed with a clip that can be moved around. Subsequently, he patented this product.

According to another version, this accessory originates from criminal images: it was originally noticed on the necks of runaway hanged criminals who escaped right “from under the noose”. And, according to rumors, this gave the idea for creating such an unusual accessory.

The next peak in the popularity of this tie model came at the end of the fifties of the last century, it was actively used to complement their image by the English promises that belong to the direction of the teddy boy, and by the end of the same century, the bolo tie began to flicker on the representatives of the fashion trend of that time called rockabilly.In European countries, the tie was never widely used; basically, only Americans wore such an unusual accessory.

In the US states of Texas and New Mexico, this tie was recognized in 1971 as the official model of the tie of these states at the legislative level. In the state of Arizona, which is considered the progenitor of the bolo tie, even a museum of the bolo tie was opened. In our time, some political leaders in America still wear such a tie, along with a hat and a business suit.

The so-called cowboy tie is not exclusively a male model these days, it is also actively used by girls. The attention of both men and women is attracted by vintage models, which are decorated with ethnic patterns and graphic designs, as well as the so-called Scout bolo ties. It got its name due to its extraordinary popularity among this youth direction, which is called scouts.

Designers have prepared many interesting models of bolo ties. These are seasoned and strict models made of leather or natural suede, as well as playful women's textile models, decorated with beaded decor. The clip of such a tie is most often unusual, carved, this bolo element is made of the highest quality wood, precious metals such as gold, silver or copper and ceramics, as well as ivory and minerals.

The ends of each bolo tie lace are clamped with special metal plates so that they do not unravel; beads or other decorations can act as an alternative. The classic way to use this tie model is to fix the clip at the level of the topmost button of the shirt, that is, right next to its collar. Scouts preferred to wear a bolo tie, with the clip lowered just below the collar, to about the second button of the shirt.

Everyone wears this tie model differently, depending on the style that it is designed to complement. So, if you want to dress in the style of "military tookin", then you should tuck both hanging edges of the tie under the shirt between its buttons, making a fashionable accent on the decorative clip of the bolo tie.

Now almost no one wears this tie model along with a cowboy outfit, boots and a hat. In addition, stylists do not recommend using a bolo tie as a replacement for a regular business tie. Designers advise to use this tie exclusively as an element of everyday style, street look or country style. They categorically advise against using it as an alternative to a strict classic tie.

A stylish solution would be to wear a bolo tie over a shirt that does not have a collar, then this accessory will have more access to an unusual pendant than a tie. A classic combination is a duet of a shirt in a masculine style in monochrome shades with a bolo tie. If you choose this option, you'd be better off unbuttoning the top button of your shirt and lowering the bolo tie down a bit. This style can be called businesslike and suitable for office work, provided that this accessory is dim and rather restrained tones.
