Keychain made of polymer clay

In our age of modern technology and innovative discoveries, things “hand made”, that is, made by hand, are becoming increasingly popular. Craftswomen from all over the world create real masterpieces from a variety of materials. Especially recently, polymer clay has been in demand, which, due to its rather plastic properties, easily takes on various shapes, and after complete drying, retains it for a long time. From such clay, you can sculpt everything that has enough imagination and creative abilities: photo frames, vases, beads, badges. In this article, we will consider the creation of key rings made of polymer clay, which will be unique in their own way, inimitable and embody the creator's most creative fantasies.

Polymer clay is a plastic mass of various colors with a specific smell. It is divided into 2 main types: self-hardening and requiring thermal exposure for drying. The latter must be heated in an oven or microwave oven at a temperature of 130 degrees. After the product dries, the elasticity of the material is completely lost, but strength and resistance to external aggressive influences are acquired.

The modern consumer market offers polymer clay from different manufacturers and with different features: it can be colored, not containing color pigment, with sparkles, glowing in the dark. From one it is better to make large products, from the other to sculpt small details.

To make key rings, you will need clay (it is better to prepare several briquettes of different colors), a stationery knife, a smooth work surface (glass cutting board, tile, etc.), accessories for key rings, a thick needle, paint and varnish products and some tools that can be replaced handy things.

Below are a few workshops on making various cute and soulful key chains for a productive and creative pastime.

A keychain with a photo of a child or a loved one can please the eye at the right time or be a wonderful gift for loved ones. To make it, you will need white clay, formic alcohol, a laser printout of the desired photo and a creative mood.

• Cut off the required amount of clay, knead and roll out in the form of a pancake.
• Take the necessary photo, attach it to the workpiece with the front side, carefully iron it, removing air between them.
• Apply an alcohol solution with a cotton swab.
• After drying, reapply alcohol a few more times.
• Gently and carefully roll the paper off the image, being careful not to touch the ink layer.
• Cut off the excess parts with a knife, giving the keychain the desired shape.
• Put to bake together with the work surface.
• Coat the product with varnish.
• Add the necessary accessories and enjoy the result.

To create this accessory, you will need an iron mold in the form of a flower.

• Take clay of different colors, roll out, without mixing, layers of the required thickness and cut out several flowers using a mold.
• The resulting flowers are carefully placed on top of each other and pressed lightly. With a needle or a toothpick, make a hole for accessories and small indentations on the front side of the “cake”.
• Grind a small amount of bright clay and sprinkle on top, depicting confiture.
• After drying, varnish and attach the necessary fittings. Flower cake is ready.

Orange. It is necessary to create the correct ball of orange clay, press down and make an “orange” skin with a toothpick on the front surface. Create a small leaf from green clay. Poke small holes in the orange and leaf with a toothpick.

For lemon clay of yellow and green colors is required. It's done just like an orange.

Heat fruits and leaves to the required temperature (usually the manufacturer indicates it on the package), after cooling, coat with varnish (you can use a transparent nail fixer). Connect the fruits and their leaves with accessories. "Delicious" products are ready to fulfill their function as key rings and give a boost of positive summer mood.

Clay products can be imitated to look like other materials, such as leather. To achieve this effect, you will need foil and brown acrylic paints.

• Roll out a layer of the required thickness.
• Crumple a sheet of foil in your hand and gently straighten.
• Press the crumpled foil onto the clay to display the prints.
• Cut out the desired shape of the future keychain.
• Make a hole for fittings.
• Finish the edges with foil.
• Bake products, cool and cover with acrylic paint.
• Wipe thoroughly with a towel and hard cloth.
• Fix the accessories and enjoy the "leather" accessory.
