Many owners of straight hair dream of beautiful curled curls or perky curls. One way to make a dream come true is to use foam curlers, which are easy to handle even for a beginner.

Peculiarities

The history of artificial curling originates in ancient Greece, where women of fashion curled their hair with hot tongs and small sticks - the ancestors of modern curlers. By the way, the very name "hair curlers" appeared much later - in medieval France.

What types of curlers have not been invented by the masters of the beauty industry during this time: thermo-, electro-, Velcro and others. Especially many of their varieties appeared in the 20th century. Among the latest inventions were foam rubber curling products, which have a lot of advantages over their predecessors.

Foam products:

  • Lungs. Their weight is practically not felt on the hair and does not create discomfort.
  • Soft. They can be easily wound up at night - they will not interfere with a full-fledged comfortable sleep.
  • Safe. They do not damage the hair during use (do not dry, do not break and do not contribute to hair loss).
  • Compact. They don't take up much space. Can be stored in a small box or cosmetic bag.

With all this, they are easy to use - even a non-professional can easily handle them.

Foam rubber curling products can be used almost without restrictions, although there are a few nuances that you should be aware of.

So, soft curlers are great for curling long and medium hair. It will not work to create curls on short hair with their help - here it is better to use more elastic options with a bending rod inside.

Kinds

Foam rubber curlers can be different in:

  • shape (round or oblong);
  • diameter - from 1 to 25 cm;
  • material density;
  • price and quality.

At the same time, the whole variety of foam rubber products can be divided into three main groups:

  • For traditional curls. They are made in the form of small rollers with a diameter of 2-5 cm.
  • For spiral curls. Such products are also called locks. They are made in the form of an elongated flexible stick with an elastic band. In the process of using them, a strand of hair is clamped with a stick bent in half and wound around it in a spiral. Fixation is carried out with an elastic band.

There is also an option in the form of spiral covers, equipped with a special plastic hook. With this hook, the strand is captured and placed in the case. The curl is fixed with an elastic band made of fabric.

  • Papillottes, also called "boomerangs". They consist of a denser foam rubber with a core of strong, but flexible wire. They allow you not to use additional fasteners - the strand is simply wound onto a hairpin, which at the end is bent and fixed.

Night styling with the help of the first two groups of curlers is as comfortable as possible. However, due to the excessive softness of the foam rubber, such products can bend during sleep, due to which kinks may appear on the curls.

Papillots, on the other hand, guarantee beautiful even curls, but sleeping on them is not as comfortable as on products without a wire frame.

How to use?

Curling beautiful curls at home without the help of professional masters is within the power of any woman or girl. In order to properly wind the hair on foam rubber curlers, it is enough to follow a simple algorithm of actions:

  1. Wash and dry your hair a little. To do this, you can use a hairdryer. Hair should be damp enough, but not wet.
  2. Comb your hair thoroughly. If necessary, you can use a special spray to facilitate untangling.
  3. Apply mousse or foam for fixation, evenly distributed along the entire length. Without this, even if the hair curls easily and quickly, the curls will not last long. However, you should not overdo it with a fixative, so that the curls do not look unnatural.
  4. Part your hair at the top lateral and two occipital sections, securing them with hairpins.
  5. Separating one strand and winding its tip on curlers, twist the spiral to the very roots. To do this, the papillot is placed under the strand about 5 cm from the tips - this will be enough to wrap it around the product once and continue to twist further. At the same time, it is necessary to wind it as tight as possible so that the curls do not crumble during sleep.
  6. Firmly fix the structure. In order to avoid any ugly kinks on the curls, it is better to move the fasteners and clips to the bottom of the curl.

Curling is easiest to start with bangs, then twist the strands from the top section, then from the sides and finally at the back of the head. Papillottes are laid evenly one after the other.After all the strands are wound on the rollers, the hair is allowed to dry.

As a rule, it takes several hours to completely dry, so the spirals are left until the morning.

In the morning, each strand is gently untwisted and straightened. If desired, the curls can be lightly sprinkled with varnish.

In addition to the traditional horizontal winding method, you can also use the vertical method. This is a relatively new invention of fashionistas and professional stylists. With this option, the perm is not done for the entire length, but only for the tips.

For greater originality, you can use papillots of various sizes.

Helpful Hints

Each fashionista has her own preferences: one wants to have large soft curls, the other - small romantic curls. At the same time, everyone wants to get the most beautiful and durable effect.

The advice of professional stylists and hairdressers will help to make the dream a reality:

  1. For soft curls take large curlers and grab a larger strand (the larger the curls, the softer the curls). For small curls, on the contrary, you will need thin spirals.
  2. Fast drying hair before winding, it is necessary to moisten each individual section of the strands.
  3. If the hair is curly then first they need to be straightened with a leveling serum or tongs.
  4. For tighter curls before wrapping on papillots, hair can be twisted.
  5. To reduce the risk of curler untwisting, at night, you can tie your head with a scarf or wear a bandana.
  6. When removing curlers with fixing elements Be careful not to get your hair caught on the clasp. Do not pull the strands strongly so as not to break the curls.
  7. After the coils are removed, do not use a comb, so as not to get a "lion's mane". It is enough just to distribute the curls with your hands. If necessary, you can comb only the tips.
  8. Do not use foam products in wet weather. The result may not be what you expected.

Experts also offer lovers of originality to experiment. For example, curling only one part of a short haircut, and leaving the other straight is simple, easy and unusual! This hairstyle is sure to grab the attention of others!

Reviews

Lovers of wavy hair who have tried foam rollers leave almost exclusively positive reviews about this invention, often calling them “magic”.

Most often, women and girls note that the use of these products is a great opportunity to look beautiful without sacrifice, without causing additional damage to their hair. It's no secret that the regular use of curling irons, perm and other means to create curls severely damage the hair structure. And if they are already not very healthy, then this can lead to a real disaster.

With foam rubber curlers, you can forget about such problems, because they do not dry or burn hair, do not violate their structure.

Those who like to experiment with their curls appreciate foam rollers because they can be used to create different looks every time.

But the most important advantages of soft products are their low cost, a wide range and the fact that they can be wound up overnight. The last circumstance is especially appreciated. After all, this means that in the morning you will not have to get up earlier than usual to do your hair.At the same time, the properties of foam rubber allow you to practically not notice the “design” on your head and sleep with the same comfort as without it.
